I grabbed the collar of Dikie’s jacket with both hands and held him up until his feet dangled off the ground. “There’s a human I feel very deeply for who could be dying this very second. Trust me when I say my manners have nothing to do with you. Now help me or let me kill you and move on to someone more useful.”

Dikie seemed to have no fear of my threats, which proved just how stupid he was, though something I said caught his attention. “You’re all tied up in knots over a human?”

My grip tightened to the point that my claws extended and ripped the fabric of his jacket.

“Fine. I want a pass to enter and leave the homeland whenever I want.”

Xian snorted. “Not gonna happen.”

“Done,” I said without thinking. “Tell me how to find her.”

Dikie’s eyes narrowed. “Put me down first.”

Everything in me wanted to fight, but Dikie wasn’t a constructive outlet for my rage, so I acquiesced and dropped him.

He straightened his jacket, brushing invisible dust from where I’d grabbed him. “This seems like a rush job, so let’s get started.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a few coins. “Catch,” he called as he tossed them into the air.

The moment I snatched one, the world blinked out of existence, and I was no longer on the road.
