He slammed my head into the wall.

The world went black, and I braced myself for another blow that never came.

Grant’s grip disappeared and it took all of my focus to stop myself from dropping to the ground.

There was a grunt, then some sort of squelching noise. I twisted so my back was against the wall and I could see what was happening.

And that’s when Grant’s lifeless body dropped next to me, his eyes wide and empty as a pool of dark red formed from a massive neck injury.

Everything seemed to stop. I didn’t breathe. All the sound from the bar faded away. Everything was utterly quiet and still as my eyes found the two very large and familiar feet attached to very tall legs, all leading right up to the dark one who had been following me.

The one who had killed Grant. The dark one who stood over me and wiped blood off his fingertips.

He might have saved me, but I really didn’t think this guy was my savior.
