Page 26 of Finding Beau

I knew this was something he and Kenny had cooked up, and I was grateful to be getting out of there. I jogged to the staff room, feeling like I’d won the lottery. Okay, so a lot of it had to do with Ty’s interruption, but tonight I’d be going home still having a job and my dignity intact.

Kenny was there, pacing, and had no doubt been waiting for me because he breathed a sigh of relief as I walked into the room.

“Thank God. I told Ty to go down and make sure nothing happened. Are you okay? He didn’t do anything, did he?”

“No, he didn’t have a chance and thank you, Kenny. I owe you and Ty one.”

“Yeah, well, do yourself a favour too and call that guy or at least text him. I think if you’d talk to him, explain who exactly Ziggy is, he might surprise you. You won’t know if you don’t try. Look at me and Ty. If I hadn’t got beaten up, we’d have never got together. And I have to tell you, Beau, it’s the best thing to have ever happened to both of us. Don’t not try. Let yourself live a little.”

Ty walked into the room then, and Kenny’s smile split his face, his eyes lighting up at the sight of the muscled bouncer.

He had a point, and maybe I should give Kwan a call or return his text. It could wait until later, though. I needed to go home and celebrate tonight’s small victory.

Grabbing my stuff from my locker, I left the club, remembering at the last moment I had no way of getting home since Marc had given me a lift here earlier. I was about to start walking when a shout from a little ways down the street had me smiling.

Marc was there waiting for me, ready to take me home, a beaming Ziggy in the passenger seat.

“Did you think we’d just leave you here? Hop in, Bobo. Let’s take you home.”

Maybe things were starting to look up.
