Page 28 of Finding Beau

“I couldn’t sleep, so I went out to get a drink.” I undressed, climbing into bed in my boxers, snuggling under the covers. “I needed to think over today. I still can’t sleep, though. I can’t stop worrying about what’s going to happen to us now that Saul’s gone.”

“He has a whole management team to sort that out. It’s not going to be all down to you. Let them deal with it.”

He lay down and turned to face me.

“Why don’t we go out tomorrow? Grab some lunch, take a look around while we have some free time. I know we don’t live too far away, but I don’t think I’ve ever been here and actually taken a good look.”

“I’d love to, but I’m going out with Beau tomorrow. He messaged me earlier, and we agreed to meet up. I’m not sure what will happen with us, but at least he’s not ignoring me. The guy he was with wasn’t his boyfriend. Well, I’m assuming not anyway. He did talk about them having to go early as his friend’s boyfriend was waiting outside.”

At this point, fatigue started to take hold, and I struggled to keep my eyes open.

“We could meet up and not get on, but maybe we’ll have a good time. I might as well make the most of it while we’re stuck here. When we get back home, it’ll be to sort out the band and help out at the restaurant, and I’m back to classes next week too. It’ll be full-on for a while.”

“You deserve someone, Kwan. You’ve denied yourself for so long, putting all of it on hold because of all the things you’ve just mentioned. Losing Saul kinda brings it home that we could go at any time. Make the most of it, Kwan. If Beau is meant to be, grab him with both hands and don’t let go. Cliché, I know, but it’s true. Now get some rest. Not sure what we’ll be doing tomorrow, but let someone else take the pressure for a while.”

Cho turned off the lamp, and the room filled with darkness. A sliver of light came in through the gap in the curtains, lending an eerie glow to the room. Perhaps Cho was right. I needed to let off some steam. I’d felt wound up and under pressure the past few months, and not just because of the band.

My eyes gradually closed as my mind drifted from one thought to another until, eventually, I fell asleep.
