I couldn’t understand Luke’s feelings right now. He looked angry, even though his voice was gentle. Maybe he was worried I wasn’t taking my situation seriously enough. I was just curious. I couldn’t help but want what Melody had with Chase. Except I wanted it with Luke.
The thought of having a Daddy was appealing and if I was going to have someone, it made sense it would be Luke. After all, I could trust him. I was positive about that. He had been protecting me since I met him on the side of the road.
Sure, he looked and acted scary sometimes. But he was so patient and gentle with me so I knew there was a softer side to him.
The thought of him wanting me was laughable, though. I was just a silly girl playing pretend. He probably thought I was a spoiled, rich snob, no matter how nice he was being right now.
Luke looked away from me, muttering a swear.
“I’m sorry,” I said automatically. “I’m being annoying, aren’t I?”
He smirked, but there was no humor in it. “No,” he said. “You’re not being annoying. The opposite, in fact.”
I frowned. “I don’t understand.”
He shook his head. “You don’t have to understand.”
“But I want to.” I huffed in frustration. “Everyone keeps me in the dark about everything. My own family didn’t tell me they planned for me to get kidnapped. Why can’t you tell me what you mean?”
He winced and looked away. “I’m a bad guy and I’m thinking some very bad thoughts. But I won’t act on them. That’s all you need to know.”
“Can’t you be more specific?”
He snorted. “No. I can’t.”
“Do you want to kill someone?” I couldn’t think of anything worse than that.
He looked at me, surprised. “Not right now,” he said. “I don’t like killing people. Not unless they hurt someone I care about.”
“Then what could it possibly be?”
“I want you as my Little,” he said. “I want you for myself! There. I said it. Are you happy now?”
I blinked. There was no way I heard that right. “You want me?”
“Of course I do. How could I not? You’re adorable and sweet and everything I want in a Little.” His eyes darted to my lips before he looked away, a muscle working in his jaw. “But I can’t have you. You deserve so much better than me. I would just hurt you. So I won’t act on these thoughts. I need you to know you’re safe, okay? But if you don’t want to stay here with me, I understand. I can leave. Someone else can come and protect you.”
“I don’t want you to leave,” I said. “Please don’t.”
“Why would you possibly want me to stay after what I just told you?”
“Because I trust you,” I said.
He snorted. “You shouldn’t trust me. You have no idea what I want to do to you.”
A shiver ran down my back, but it wasn’t fear. It was exciting. No one had ever dared look at me like Luke was looking at me right now. He was staring at me with blatant desire. “Maybe I want it too,” I said.
A muscle twitched in his jaw. “I would only hurt you.”
“You haven’t hurt me yet,” I said. “In fact, you’ve treated me better than my own family.”
He snorted. “That’s not hard to do.”
I knew those words to be true but it didn’t change how I felt. “I don’t have any experience being a girlfriend, much less a Little. But I want to experience it with you.”
