“She’s probably hungry,” Rowan says as she moves to sit down and nurse her.

I join Sydney in the little kitchen, opening up the brownies and tortilla chips. Sydney is already cooking up the ground beef and I move to help her cut up some tomatoes and lettuce.

“She’s out,” Rowan says as we’re plating up the food and I smile.

“Is she sleeping through the night?” I ask.

I’m kind of clueless when it comes to kids. Dating hasn’t been on my radar for years, so neither have kids.

“Yeah, she’s always been a good sleeper. It’s more watching her when she’s awake that’s the problem,” she jokes.

“Nothing that some tacos can’t fix,” Sydney says with a smile as she hands her a plate and Rowan grins.

“So true.”

We all head over to sit down in the living room and Rowan sighs as she kicks her feet up on the coffee table. We dig in, all moaning at the same time and I laugh.

“I’ve missed this,” I say and they both nod.

“What’s new around town?” Sydney asks as she dips a chip into the guacamole.

“Not much,” I tell her.

“Well, that’s not true,” Rowan says with a smile. “Word is that a certain someone is back in town.”

“Jasper,” I say and she grins at me.

“I heard that you went out with him last night.”

“Yeah, I did.”

“And?” they both ask at the same time.

“And it was perfect,” I admit with a blush.

“I knew it! I want all of the details,” Sydney says and I laugh.

“Well, we went to The Rosebud for dinner.”

“And…” Rowan asks, waiting for more details.

“And the food was really good,” I go on.

“You’re the worst,” Sydney says with a laugh.

“And we kissed when he dropped me off. He said that I was beautiful and he noticed and remembered all of these things from when we were in high school. It was… perfect.”

“Oh my gosh! That is so sweet,” Sydney says and Rowan is smiling but it looks a little tense.

I wonder if talking about guys reminds her of Reed and what they could have had.

“What about you?” Rowan asks Sydney. “Any dates or boys that we should know about?”

“Ugh, no. My grandma keeps trying to set me up on blind dates but I’ve managed to put them off.”

“That won’t last long,” I warn her and she laughs.

“I know, I know,” she says with a groan.
