My mom is a tough lady.

“Yeah, it’s not that big of a deal. Can you come sign me out?”

“Yeah, I’m on my way. I’ll be there in fifteen minutes,” I say and she tells the nurse in the room before we hang up.

“Everything alright?” Jasper asks, concerned.

“Yeah, my mom sprained her arm. I need to go check her out and take her home.”

We drive the rest of the way to the hospital in silence and he pulls up out front.

“Call me if you need anything,” he says as I hop out and nod.

“I’ll text you later.”

He nods and I close the door, hurrying inside.

It takes me an hour to get my mom checked out and home and in bed. I sigh as I take off my clothes and hop in the shower. My fingers run over my mouth and I remember the way Jasper kissed me tonight. I hadn’t wanted him to stop and I’m sure that I still have a red mark from his beard. I wonder how far we would have gone if my mom hadn’t called.

I have a feeling that I wouldn’t have stopped him from going all of the way.

ChapterNine

Jasper

I show up bright and early, wanting to be the first customer at The Garden Goddess. Today is opening day, and I spent yesterday helping Evangeline out with all of the last minute adjustments that she wanted done.

Evangeline’s mom, Marie, was there too. I have a feeling that Evangeline didn’t want to leave her alone with her arm, even if she’s fine. Her arm is bandaged up like mine and we bonded over tips on how to make the sling comfortable to wear for longer periods of time.

Marie got tired after lunch and had headed to the office to watch some TV show on Evangeline’s computer. I had used the privacy to steal as many kisses as I could from Evangeline, but I have a feeling that the beard burn that I was leaving behind may have given us away.

If I moved a pot, she would come over and lean up on her tiptoes, those perfect curves pressing against my body as she offered me her mouth. It got to the point that I was walking around looking for things to do to earn one of those kisses or one of her sweet smiles.

I had wanted to take her out to dinner but I could tell that she was getting tired and wanted to get her mom home to rest, so we made plans to go out tonight to celebrate.

I pull into the lot, parking next to Evangeline’s truck. I brought her donuts and a coffee and I smile as I climb out of my Jeep and head inside the nursery.

“Hey!” Evangeline calls, looking over the top of some rose bushes as I walk in.

“Hey, looks great. I brought you some breakfast,” I say as I weave through the flowers and plants.

“You’re the best,” she says as she takes the coffee and takes a large gulp.

Evangeline heads to the front counter and I follow, taking the stool next to her behind the counter.

“Are you ready for the grand opening?” I ask.

“Yeah, I keep checking the clock, waiting for it to be nine.”

“Almost there,” I say, checking my watch.

“I know, the nerves are killing me.”

“It’s going to be great,” I assure her.

She gives me a grateful smile and I open the pastry box, letting her pick out a donut.

“How’s your mom?” I ask as we both bite into our treats.
