“That’s probably a good idea for both of us.”

“Maybe we can do a few sessions together,” I suggest.

Gray nods, chewing on his bottom lip, and I decide not to push it for now.

“Maybe,” he says and I nod.

I ask him more about Pittsburgh and Eye Candy Ink. He tells me about Rooney who sounds like either a lunatic or an absolute riot. Harvey is his polar opposite. Then there’s Ames and Banks, who both sound to be more relaxed too.

I’m glad that my brother was able to find a second family, one who loves him and is there for him when he needs support. I only wish that we had both had it when we were younger.

I wish that I had it now.

My mind flashes to Evangeline and I smile.

Maybe I already do have someone like that.

ChapterTwelve

Evangeline

“Oh, you brought the good stuff,” Rowan says as she opens the door and sees me standing there with a bakery box from Holy Cannoli.

“Only the best for girl’s night,” I say with a laugh as she lets me inside the apartment.

“Hey,” Sydney says as she comes in behind me, a few pizza boxes balanced on her hand as she tucks her cell phone into her pocket.

“Hey, just in time,” I say as I help her make room on the counter for the boxes.

“Where’s Harper?” Sydney whispers and Rowan grins at her.

“She’s already asleep. She’s teething, so she’s been crabby today. I gave her some Tylenol and put her to bed early.”

“Oh, that sounds rough,” Sydney says.

“Yeah, poor baby. I saw some teething toys at the store. They had this cute strawberry one with like a long piece for her to hold on to,” I say and Rowan walks over to the sink, pulling out a freshly washed teething toy that I just described.

“I bought it today. Along with some that can be frozen, some numbing gel, some teething pills, and teething biscuits.”

“So, you’ve been busy,” Sydney jokes as Rowan sinks onto a stool at the kitchen counter.

“You have no idea.”

“We won’t stay long then,” I promise her, and she gives me a grateful smile.

We all dig into the pizza and take seats in the living room.

“How’s The Garden Goddess?” Rowan asks and I nod.

“Really good. Business has been pretty steady since I opened. I had a few more landscaping requests today.”

“Are you going to start offering that service?” Sydney asks and I shrug.

“I’d like to, but I need to find someone to cover the shop then. Jasper said that he would help, but I can’t pay anyone right now and I don’t know...” I trail off.

“Well, you don’t have to decide tonight,” Rowan says kindly.

“Yeah, what she said,” Sydney says with a grin.
