“I love you too,” he says, kissing me as he pulls out and rolls onto his side.

“I’m glad that you came back,” I tell him, rolling onto my side to face him.

“There’s nowhere that I would rather be.”

We spend the rest of the night making love and plans for the future. He tells me more about therapy and I know that he has a lot of work to do to be fully okay with Rosewood, his childhood, and the accident, but I’m happy to be by his side while he works through everything.

There’s nowhere that I would rather be.

ChapterFifteen

Jasper

Five Years Later…

“I’ll watch him,” Marie offers, reaching out with a smile.

“You’re going to hang out with Grandma, alright Noah?” I ask my two-year-old son and he nods, reaching out to go to Marie.

I smile as I go in search of my wife. We’re in Pittsburgh, visiting Gray and Nora for Thanksgiving and we invited Marie to join us. She loves Gray and Nora and they love her. She’s like the mom that none of us ever had.

Moose and Marley look up from their dog beds as I head past them, so I bend down, scratching their ears. They’ve calmed down a lot over the years and they’re easier to manage now that they’re out of the puppy phase and don’t chew on my shoes every time I come to visit. Noah loves them and I know that Evangeline is going to be wanting a dog when we get back home. I’ve already started researching breeds because what my Evangeline wants, I make sure that she gets.

“Hey, how are you feeling?” I ask Evangeline as I come up behind her, wrapping my arms around her swollen stomach.

“I’m a whale,” she says, getting a little teary-eyed and I bury my face in her neck to hide my smile.

Evangeline is seven months pregnant with our second baby, a girl this time. We’ve been married for four years, got engaged on our one-year anniversary. She moved in with me at her grandparents’ place six months before that, and I knew that I wanted to spend my life with her.

“You’re beautiful,” I promise her. “Every inch of you is perfect.”

I rub her stomach, kissing her neck as I try to reassure her. I’m used to the baby hormones by now and I’m an expert at calming her worries. It doesn’t hurt that she still is the most beautiful thing that I’ve ever seen, so telling her isn’t any hardship.

“Are you hungry?” I ask her as she turns in my arms.

“Always.”

I smile at her, kissing her before I lead her over to the couch next to her mom.

“I’ll go grab you something to eat,” I tell her and she smiles up at me before she reaches for Noah.

I head into the kitchen where Nora is busying feeding her son Sawyer.

“Hey, little man,” I say, holding out my hand for a high five.

He grins at me as he slaps it.

“Gray should be home any minute and we can get started making the sides,” Nora tells me and I nod.

“I was going to grab Evangeline some of those veggies and dip.”

“Help yourself,” she says with a smile.

I make Evangeline a small plate and am cleaning up the kitchen when Gray comes back in with a few grocery bags.

“Going to the store on Thanksgiving is a nightmare,” he says with a sigh as he kisses his wife.

“No sh— crap,” I finish, looking over to make sure that Sawyer didn’t hear me.
