“Have you ever seen males before?”
“Males?”
“Holy fuck. Are you shitting me right now?”
I reluctantly pull my head away from Colter’s nice purr, feeling my eyebrows scrunch up in confusion. Such strange words these things speak. “What does that mean?”
“Fuck we have a lot of ground to cover. Before we get into that, have you met our other packmate? They exposed you to him, did they not?”
“Other…packmate?”
“Someone like us…that might smell different, affect you differently. Maybe was used in that creepy ass ritual your leader performed last week?”
I taste cinnamon at the back of my throat at the memory. “He was…your friend?”
“He’s our brother, your other alpha,” Colter says.
“Why do you saymyalpha as if I belong to you?”
“Did you meet him?”
“Does he smell of sweet cinnamon?” A shudder works its way down my spine.
“Well that reaction answers our questions, Kit. She reacts to him as well.” Colter says this with a pronounced sound of pride in his voice, as if it makes him happy. I find that I enjoy making him feel that.
“We need to return for him. Do you have a preference for which one of us stays with you and which one goes to get him from the compound?”
“I imagine you all have a plan and I imagine it is in no way going to be derailed by anything I do, so just proceed as you will.” I test the confines of their arms, trying to see how much give I have in case I decide to make a run for it.
“You’re not going anywhere, pet. We’re not in the habit of letting things go once we claim them.”
I feel warm lips brush against my neck, and I let out this raspy moan, surprising myself in the intense way such a simple touch affects me.
“Gods alive how you make me crazy, woman. I’m going to go for James so we can get you home and work on claiming you fully. You will be ours without a doubt in anyone’s mind. I cannot wait to slip inside this soft, curvy body and pump you full of my hot cum.”

Something hard and thick presses against the side of my leg, making me gasp. “What on earth is that? You are a different species!”

“I understand, Kit. You know I’ll bring him back in one piece.”
With one last, longing look, Colter peels himself away from me and I feel cold instantly, some of my previous hysteria creeping back in.
“Protect her, brother.”
“With my life,” Kit promises.
We listen to his footfalls quicken outside our tent and then it’s just us.
Kit is staring at me, his hand on my hip, as if he’s trying to learn every facet of my face. “Who was Eln to you?”
“It’s sort of complicated.”
“We have time,” he says, indicating our surroundings.
