This iswhat I was hoping for.

Her, in all her glory, giving me the proverbial middle finger.

It serves as a reminder that she’s every inch the woman I remember before my opinion of her soured.

It also makes this game so much sweeter.

She matches me fiercely, her seat at the end of the table mirrors mine, and she grins wickedly across the plates, the cutlery, and the flowing drinks.

We’re the perfect snapshot of how this kingdom should have been led before it all crumbled.

“She fits in sickeningly well.”

Of course Sebastian noticed it as well.

“Did you think I had any doubt on that matter?”

I reach for my coffee, keeping my eyes firmly on her as she interacts with the men on either side of her. I chose Dylan to watch her as I know he’s the most loyal and he’ll listen to any command I offer, and I deliberately stuck Sean on her other side because he’s known her the longest. He also knew how she left.

She gets up silently, heading over to the breakfast bar set up, and I count to five before I move. I know my father’s watching, but I don’t care. He doesn’t have a say in this game.

“Hey, darling girl.”

I pounce as she stands with her back to me.

My greeting causes goosebumps to rise across her skin. She tries to temper down her reaction to me, but her animalistic instincts are as sharp as they always were. The way my cock throbs tells me it’s mutual. Apparently, some things are just never meant to change.

And toxic love shouldn’t taste this sweet. It certainly shouldn’t be this addictive. Yet it was, and I wanted it no matter what anyone said.

“Ready to head out?”

“Sure, boss.”

Her tone is curt, and her lips curl around the name in a small smirk. She’s playing me, and she’s enjoying every minute. A fact she isn’t ashamed to share.

“Don’t do that.”

“Do what?”

Ah, there it is. The innocent act.

I learned long ago that a benevolent Natalia was always the calm before the storm.

Her halo rested neatly on the horns she was born with, and she knew that better than anyone else.

“Behave like you’re a willing counterpart.”

“Well…” she starts, her eyes meeting mine with a newfound strength. “What choice do I have?”

“You’re not here to follow my men, Talia. You’re not even here to follow me. Not really.”

“Then what choices do I have?”

“You’re an onlooker, you’re a prisoner, and you’re worthless. You’re here to be here.”

She laughs at that statement.

“You’re here for my amusement.”
