“This room is absolute chaos.”

“Sums up the situation, no?”

I snicker at her comeback, heading to the armchair on the far side of the room. “It’s not been that long, Talia. How the fuck do you make so much mess?”

I pluck a top off and toss it to the floor before I take my seat and watch her.

She mutters something but doesn’t react to me directly.

Sebastian forced me to come here, knowing I was wound tight over our confrontation with Tobias. Whether it was because I didn’t like how it ended or because I didn’t like how he threatened Natalia, I’m yet to work out. All I know is my darling girl angers me like no other, and I need to set a precedent here. Leaving my mark on her has to happen in every way possible—mentally, physically, and emotionally.

“Did Sebastian kiss it better?”

Her question is sudden, and I hadn’t noticed her focusing so solely on me, but she’s eying up the cut on my cheek.

“Jealous if he did?” My lips pull slightly.

With a simple head shake, she sets to haphazardly making her bed, throwing the sheets back and plucking clothes off the bed to chuck them into a pile. I’ll let her do what she needs to, but I enjoy this sight. Watching Natalia angry and uncomfortable all at once was always a thrill.

“What’s annoying you most, darling girl?” I ask, standing up so I can cross the room. “Being here with me, or being here without any piece of your life?”

“Well, you killed the only thing I cared about, so the rest is obsolete.”

“Ah, Andreas.”

“Yeah, Andreas…”

“You didn’t seem too bothered when you told me to kill him.”

“What does it matter anyway?”

I can tell she’s trying in vain to hide how she really feels over Andreas. It’s cute really, seeing her care about something other than her stolen spot in The Company or my being in her place.

It means there is still part of her I can twist.

“Why are you here?” She sets her hands firmly on her hips, her expression stormy. “I mean, not that I can stop you, but why are you suddenly here?”

“We need to talk.”

She huffs, rolling her eyes. “Of course we do.”

“I told you to behave during that meeting. You fucked it up.”

“Me?” she gasps, almost sounding hurt over that fact.

Almost.

“I gave you strict orders.”

She rolls her eyes again. “You had to know I wasn’t ever going to listen.”

My jaw muscles tighten as I clench my teeth.

“Oh my God!” She claps her hands together in amusement. “You thought I’d behave!”

Now comes the laughter.

It’s instant, full and lively, and fuck, now she’s bending forward, hands to thighs, full belly laughing. I haven’t heard this in so long that it almost throws me off kilter. Stilling myself, I sober at the sight of her.
