“Ah, I knew it!” He pointed at my face but then his own face fell. “Why are you crying, Mia?”

“It’s stupid,” I said, while trying to grin. “They’re not sad tears, I promise.”

Conor moved so he was lying down on his side, facing me this time, but kept his upper body propped up on his arm. He brushed a finger down my cheek, tracking a tear.

“What’s wrong, Mia baby?” he asked quietly.

“I was just thinking about how you have this huge bed and you choose to stay wrapped up close to me. See? Stupid. Nothing for you to worry about.”

He ran his thumb over my cheek and grinned crookedly. “Yeah, well, I told you. I like your bed. This fucker’s too big for the two of us.”

“I like your bed though.” It turned out I enjoyed cuddling, but I was sure there would come a day that we would need our space in bed.

“And I like yours. You lose this argument, Mia.” He relaxed his arm and lay down fully beside me, his eyes just taking in my face and features. I nearly wiggled from the uncomfortable perusal, but I refrained.

Finally, after a few quiet moments, Conor spoke up. “We have to talk baby things soon.”
