“My things...?”

I pointed with my spoon toward the fireplace. “Finishing drying by the fire. I took a shower and didn’t want the dampness to affect them.”

“Oh. Ok. Thank you.”

I took another bite of oatmeal, watching as she moved to the other side of the room to gather clothes for the day.

“You showering?”

She looked over her shoulder before picking up another garment from the hearth. “Yeah. Wake up my head. Warm up my bones.”

Immediately, an image of another way to warm up her bones infiltrated my mind, and I nearly choked on the next spoonful of oatmeal.

Savannah lifted her brows, walking toward me with her things, but clearly on her way back to the bathroom. “You okay?”

I cleared my throat. “Yep.” And again. “Yeah. I am. Just...wrong pipe.”

The side eye she gave me told me she didn’t necessarily believe what I said, but thankfully, she let it go and was soon, once again, locked away in the bathroom.

It was going to be a long morning...

* * *

It was nearly noon when the message from Tony finally came through.

Here is the finale show. You’ll need to log in to the webinar app no later than 5:30 pm PDT so we can check cam and audio. When you first click into the room, you’ll hear feedback, but it won’t go through to the Live room. Please watch the finale before logging in, as questions will undoubtedly be from the show. We’ll be live from 6 pm PDT to 7 pm PDT. After the show is through, you can hang out in the room and continue to talk to others. I know Bella would like to speak further with you...

Talk soon.

I shook my head at Tony’s continuous attempts at getting me to talk to Bella.

Bella and me...it wasn’t happening.

“You wanna watch this?” I asked Savannah, even though my eyes were still down on my phone. She sat beside me, on the bed—our couch of choice, it would seem—on her own phone, reading another romance story.

She sighed quietly. “Just...give me a couple of minutes. It just got to the good part.” After her shower this morning, she seemed to wake up and even though she was reading and quiet right now, everything felt like old times.

Curious what the good part was, I put my phone down in my lap and leaned into her side—something I knew she hated.

She absolutely despised when people read over her shoulder, and I was no exception. Not ten years ago. And not today.

“Ryan!” She turned her shoulders and the phone, blocking my view as best as she could.

“Oh. It’s that kind of good part,” I teased while making an assumption—more than from her blocking my view, but from the fact that her cheeks instantly turned red—and I reached for her phone.

This time when she yelled my name again, it was on a laugh. “C’mon, man! The build up has been intense. I just want two more minutes...”

I wasn’t about to stop my fight. I was curious what her favorite authors wrote about when it came to the P and the V, and their mutual joining. “If your fictional hero can get it done in two minutes, he’s gotta work on his stamina.” Just as I made contact with her phone though, she hit the sleep button, effectively turning the screen off.

“Now no one can read it. And poor Ford and Ashe have to wait even longer to get it on, because you interrupted.”

“Aw, poor Ford and Ashe,” I joked, but Savannah dug a finger into the middle of my chest.

“They’ve been circling one another for years. They grew up together; their parents are friends. The chemist—”

And then she stopped.

Clear in the middle of her sentence.
