Page 6 of Lost Without You

I couldn’t tell you the first time that I noticed-noticed Savannah, but man, since then I was hit with every damn emotion whenever she was near.

When she emerged from the car, she had her own bag of groceries. “So, is Bella here with you?” One brown brow was raised as she looked at me, and I couldn’t read much of her expression.

Did she want Bella here?

“I mean, I’m not like...ruining some sex fest or something, right?” She added a small laugh but moved past me quickly. I followed her up the stairs and reached for the door before she could, pushing it open for her.

“Nope, just me.” I didn’t elaborate.

If she really wanted to know more, she’d ask.

Savannah wasn’t afraid to ask the hard questions.

At least, she never used to be.

“Well, that’s good, I guess. I have no issues sharing a bed with you, but I’m not really all about sharing a bed with you love birds.”

Savannah busied herself with the contents of her bag, but I saw the flush on her face, and how the red dropped down her neck and through the neck of her shirt.

She was affected.

Good.

Suddenly, what once looked like another boring weekend was looking up.

I was going to get back in Savannah’s good graces—no, she never once outwardly told me we were on the outs, but our friendship had been strained since her twenty-first birthday.

Strained because she pushed me away.

Strained because I was fighting—and losing—the battle of being in love with my best friend.

Coincidence or not that we were both here for a weekend, I was going to do everything I could to mend what was broken.

And hopefully, before the end of it, make her realize she loved me too.

Yeah, the weekend didn’t look so bleak anymore.
