Kingston

I’m in the middle of a conversation with Uncle Dante and one of his new fighters when my phone pings. Thinking it might be Briar, I step away to check it. She probably got lost looking for me.

“Excuse me, I have to check this,” I step away as they continue their conversation about upcoming matches. I look at the message but it’s not from Briar, it’s from Tristan and what it says makes my blood boil.

‘Lane was here. He assaulted Briar.’

‘The fuck. Where are you?’

‘Back hall, north side.’

‘On my way.’

I get Holden’s attention and motion for him to follow me since I don’t know what I’m walking into and if Lane is still here.

We round the corner of the hallway and Tristan is kneeling on the floor, cradling Briar’s head.

“What the fuck happened? Where is Lane?” I snarl at him.

“He ran off,” Tristan raises his head and I notice the bruises starting to form on his face.

“Fuck, you okay?” I ask him, taking a knee by my girl.

“I’m good. She needs a doctor,” he gestures to Briar who has a handprint on her throat.

“Holden,” I snap and I hear him run off, he’s going for Remo.

“Let’s bring her in here,” I scoop her up carefully and nod at Tristan to open one of the doors to a spare bedroom and place her on the bed.

“I’m sorry, Kingston. I was keeping an eye on her and when she started walking this way, I followed but got held up by someone.”

“What did he do?” I am beyond pissed and I want Lane dead since it’s proven he’s not going to stop.

“He had his hand around her throat and pushed up against the wall. I lunged at him and he threw her to the floor, I think she blacked out from the lack of oxygen. I scuffled with him until he coldcocked me and I went down. I was only out a minute but when I came to, he was gone. That’s when I texted you.”

“You did what you could. I need him gone though.”

“I know,” Tristan replies, looking torn up because Briar was hurt.

“Call Hayes and ask him to come here. She will need to give a statement,” I say as my phone pings.

‘That was only the beginning.’

Fuck this dude.

‘You’re done.’

I know I shouldn’t poke the bear but he fucked with Briar and I’m not letting him get away with that.

‘We both know I’m not.’

I ignore the text and focus on Briar. The handprint on her neck is bright red and her neck is swollen.

I send out a text to Viktor and Dante to let them know what’s going on as I brush a hair from her face. She’s so innocent, just in the wrong place at the wrong time and a monster took notice.

“I tried,” Tristan whispers, taking this really hard. Briar won’t blame him, she will tell him he saved her and I have to agree.

“I know,” I nod. The bruises on his face prove he really did try.
