“We’re here.” Remo rushes in, “What happened?”

“Lane happened,” I say sadly as the room starts to fill up- Embry, Tana, along with Viktor. I briefly filled them in on what happened.

“Lane was here? In this house?” Viktor is pissed, rightly so. He’s looked out for all of us and this will hang on him as well.

“She’s going to hate me. I promised to keep her safe and I couldn’t,” I hang my head in shame. She got hurt because of me.

Tana puts her hand on my shoulder and I turn to look at her, “She won’t blame you. You couldn’t predict what he would do or will do. You tried, Tristan tried.”

“What happened?” Thorn rushes in, clearly pissed off and yelling, going straight for Briar.

“Lane,” is all I can say.

“I’m going to kill him,” Thorn seethes, straightening up and starting for the door.

“Sit down, Thorn. We don’t need you running off half-cocked. Your sister will need you,” Viktor pushes him into a chair on the other side of the bed.

“How could he do this?” Thorn asks, looking at his sister with sadness.

“Good question. We need to end this soon. It’s getting out of hand. I will see if some of my men can hunt him down and get a location for the cops,” Viktor states as Hayes steps in.

“I’m sorry, King,” Hayes pats my shoulder.

“Find him,” I hiss.

“I’ll get the best I’ve got on this. Along with Viktor’s help, we will find him. I promise. I will have to get her statement when she wakes up. Anyone else with her?”

“I was,” Tristan raises his hand.

“Let’s step out and I’ll take yours now. I want you to know that this is my top priority,” Hayes says before stepping out with Tristan.

“She needs to rest. Her neck is bruised, that we can see. I don’t think anything is broken, but I’d like her to come in for x-rays tomorrow before your fight. She will be in pain, I will prescribe pain killers. I have a couple here, have her take them when she wakes up. She needs to take it easy,” Remo says.

“Can I take her home?” I ask.

“Yes, I’ll come check on her in the morning and accompany her to the hospital to make sure she doesn’t have anything else wrong,” Don gives me a small smile.

“Thanks, Remo,” I shake his hand, thankful he was here.

“Everyone out, give them some space,” Remo ushers everyone out the door except Thorn. I know he won’t want to leave.

I sit back in the chair on the other side of her, taking her hand and I cry. I don’t care if Thorn sees me. I was supposed to keep her safe, protect her and I failed. I’m full on sobbing, even Thorn has tears in his eyes.

“Why so sad?” Her voice so hoarse and soft, we almost don’t catch it.

She reaches out and caresses my cheek, wiping tears away, and then reaching for Thorn’s hand.

“I made you a promise and I couldn’t keep it,” I sniff. “You got hurt.”

“I’m still here. I don’t blame you and obviously I had a shadow,” she whispers.

“Tristan?” I ask and she nods.

“I think he was keeping an eye on me while you were attending business or catching up with old friends,” she rasps.

“He’s a good guy,” I say.

“He is and I’m okay. Just a little sore,” her voice cracks.
