Snow
“You look good today.” Ariel is giving me such a nice compliment that I have to look down at what I’m wearing.
“It’s only jeans and a flannel.” I shrug. It’s nothing to brag about.
“No, I mean, like you have color back in your cheeks,” she says with a smile. “And you’re healing on the inside. We’ve been talking for a little over a month now. How do you feel?”
“I feel much better.” I honestly do.
“What’s new?” she asks.
“Afton.”
“I’m sorry?” She appears confused, and I forget it was only Shane and I in the kitchen when we met him.
“London’s boyfriend from school.”
“Oh.” Ariel’s brows draw together as she tilts her head.
“It didn’t end well, but he explained everything. He’s hot, Ariel. Like dripping hot, erotic hot.”
“Oh, my.” She starts to fan herself with her notepad, a wicked grin splitting her face.
“Even Shane adjusted himself when we met him.” I can’t help but keep going. Ariel’s reaction is hilarious.
“Oh, my.” She fans harder, and I really want to laugh at her reaction.
“Shane is still struggling with the whole ‘being attracted to a man’ thing, but I think he likes Afton as well.”
“Why do you think that?” Ariel asks, crossing her legs—not fanning herself. Finally, I said something that elicits more than, “Oh, my.” So funny.
“Because Afton showed up on the porch for breakfast, waiting for London, and, well . . . he and Shane had a moment.”
“Had a moment?” she asks, arching a brow in question.
“They talked, but I think they wanted to kiss.”
“And how do you feel about that?”
“I kind of wanted to see that,” I admit.
“You did?”
“I’ve seen London and Shane kiss. And it’s . . . oh, my. I’m worried, though.”
“Worried about what?”
“Ever is coming by for part of the show today, even I get to be a part of it. Five people have to cook London lunch. One will go home. But she really wants to talk.”
“And?”
“I’m worried she’ll want me to leave.”
“I don’t think she wants to see you leave.”
“Is it about London and me?” Why else would she want to talk to me if it wasn’t about Shane or London?
