“I think it’s about you.” Ariel gives me a pointed look, and I’m not sure I understand.

“What?”

“She wants to make sure you’re okay. That being with her dad is okay. You’re a bit younger than Ivy, and she’s worried that it’s too soon for you.”

“Oh. Is it too soon?” I ask, truly wanting her opinion.

“What do you think?” She sits back in her chair, resting her elbows on the armrests.

Seems like I’ll be giving my thoughts instead. Well, this is why I’m here.

“I don’t think so,” I tell her truthfully. “I feel safe with them—all of them—but I don’t want Ever to be uncomfortable.”

“Just be honest with her,” Ariel says.

“I will.” My palms are sweaty—likely nerves—so I brush them down my pants leg.

“Let’s go meet Afton.” Ariel winks, and nervous butterflies flitter in my belly.

This should be fun.
