He stared at her hand for a moment before responding. “I shouldn’t have come. Sorry,” he said as he turned to walk toward the door. She grasped his arm, sending a fizzled current through them both.

“Nav! What. Are. You. Doing. Here?” she asked with emphasis.

Nav had sighed, finally making eye contact. “I fucked up. I shouldn’t have let you go.” He shuffled his feet, rubbing the toe of his wet shoe against the tile in her entryway.

Lexie narrowed her eyes before gathering her composure. She found herself sad for Nav but felt little toward him in the space of love. The love she felt for Oliver was strong and intact. Nav couldn’t take that away from her.

“But you did, Nav. I haven’t seen you in nearly a year. I’ve moved on and as far as I’ve been told, so have you. Now please, I have a lot of packing to do before Oliver gets back to town.” She walked toward the door and opened it further, ending his unexpected visit. He pursed his lips together and shook his head before walking straight out into the rain. Just as she went to shut the door, he turned around to face her again.

“I’m glad you’re happy. You deserve every ounce of love he gives you.”

She pulled her mind back to the present moment with Kennedy. “I’m sure it will be fine. I’m just overthinking, as I do.”

Kennedy laughed and turned toward her. “I think it’ll be a fun trip.”

Lexie shook out her shoulders, releasing the tension she had built up from the anxiety of this trip, and pulled her bags off the bed, following Kennedy back down the stairs and into the living room
