Theheatfromthe oven flooded the kitchen as the smells of Thanksgiving wafted through every crevice in the house. Nav dipped his hand into the bowl of cookies on the table, allowing his taste buds to water as the chocolate melted against his tongue. It was the first annual Friendsgiving with all of the friends who had become family over the years and Nav looked around feeling thankful. They’d always vowed to be there for one another through the years, and his friends never abandoned that promise. Sedona, Avanna, Lexie, and Kennedy were standing in the kitchen preparing the rest of the dishes for dinner while Eagle, Payson, Adam, and Nav stood around the table with beers aimlessly watching football. The sounds of laughter filled the home they had each individually grown in. Eagle’s lakehouse was full of the memories that defined each of their lives.

“So, Nav, how’s the station treating you?” Eagle asked as he popped a handful of peanuts into his mouth.

“Ya know, it’s not that bad. I’m no longer on rookie status, thank God,” he said with a chuckle.

Eagle nodded and glanced back toward the kitchen. “And Lexie? I heard she put her resignation in at the elementary school last week?”

Nav smiled as he glanced over his shoulder at the woman he was going to spend the rest of his life with. Her auburn hair was wrapped up into a bun on her head and curls dangled along the side of her face. Her green eyes were sparkling as she made eye contact with Nav and sent a wink his way. Nav felt his insides flutter as the lust for Lexie consumed him. He cleared his throat, bringing himself back to the conversation. “Yes, she was offered a full-time contract with the Otsego Press. After her op-eds about St. Thomas went viral they have been begging for her to write for them full-time. It took a little bit of convincing to get her to leave the school, but she’s excited.”

Eagle smacked Nav on the back. “That’s awesome, man! How’s the house hunt going?”

Nav groaned. “Ah, now that’s a nightmare. I think Lexie is still struggling to let go of her and Oliver’s house, but we both agree that it wouldn’t feel right for me to move in there, so it’s just kind of a back and forth at this moment. She’s at the loft most every night.”

Nav turned to face his brother. “How’s the morning sickness been?”

Adam sighed as he turned to face Nav. “Man, it’s been rough. She’s been so sick since we found out about the pregnancy. Can hardly keep any food down, so today will be interesting.”

Eagle cringed and took a swig of his beer. “So are you guys down here then until the baby comes?”

Adam nodded. “Yeah, Kennedy wants to be near Baylor for the birth, so we are both working remotely for now.”

Payson joined in. “Well, it’ll be nice to have you guys close for a few months.”

As if she sensed they were talking about her, Kennedy approached the group of guys and Adam instinctively wrapped his arm around her. She was wearing leggings and a red sweater that accentuated her tiny bump just perfectly. She was glowing and her smile was contagious, despite how terrible she had been feeling over the last several months. Nav couldn’t help but be happy for his friends. While everyone was creating their own families, it only increased the size of their chosen family. A family they never would have created if it weren’t for St. Augustine University.
