TWELVE

For an entire week now, Seth and I had been together. It was strange, in a way. It was nice to have him pick me up for school and drop me off at home. He walked me to and from all of my classes. He was so fucking sweet.

And the asshole Seth was nowhere in sight.

But now, I had this stretching rubber band feeling, especially today. Something was going to happen. I just didn’t know what. And I prayed it had nothing to do with me and Seth.

Nausea swirled in my gut. I really, really didn’t feel good. I hadn’t even been able to eat breakfast that morning.

With a small groan, I crossed my arms on my desk and laid my head on top of them, drawing in deep breaths through my nose, letting them out through my mouth so I wouldn’t throw up everywhere.

I really felt so, so sick.

Seth’s hand settled over my back. “Babe, you okay?” he quietly asked me.

I nodded. “I just don’t feel good,” I told him. “I really just want to go home. But I can’t skip,” I added, shooting him a dark look when he opened his mouth to speak.

He just shot me a sheepish smile. “I’ll text Trent for you—see if he can’t come get you out of school and take you home,” he told me. “Will that be okay? You look really fucking pale, Bailey.”

I nodded, swallowing vomit as I did so. I closed my eyes again. Seth rubbed soothing circles on my back, and within fifteen minutes, my name was called over the intercom to leave for the day.

Seth pressed a kiss to my forehead. “Text me, yeah? I’ll come see you this evening, baby. Get some rest.”

I nodded. He shot me one last worried look before I left the classroom, trying not to vomit the entire walk to the front office.

“Fuck; you really don’t feel good,” Trent muttered when I walked up to him. He grabbed my bag from me and tucked me under his arm. “Come on. I’ll call Mom on the way, okay?”

I nodded. “Thanks, Trent,” I whispered.

Then, I finally fucking vomited. All over the hallway floor.

And after that, I burst into tears.

That rubber band feeling just got ten times worse.

When I got homeTrent helped me into the house. Dad stepped out of his office, his eyes running over me. “You okay?” Dad finally asked me.

“Fine,” I mumbled.

Trent snorted. “She’s not fine. Threw up. She doesn’t feel good.”

Dad frowned. “Go on upstairs and get some rest,” he told me. “I’ll come up later with some medicine and some crackers.”

I slowly trudged up the stairs to my room, exhaustion pulling on my body. I threw my bag on the floor, not caring where it landed. As soon as I was under my blankets, I was out like a light, completely forgetting to text Seth that I had made it home.

My mom was sittingbeside me when I woke up, her hand running over my hair. I slowly blinked up at her. “Mom?” I groggily asked.

She grabbed a box off the bedside table and handed it to me. “You need to take this, sweetheart.”

I looked down at the box. Tears sprang to my eyes.

This wasn’t happening.

My mom had handed me a fucking pregnancy test.
