FOUR

Iwas hoping for a peaceful morning. After everything that had happened yesterday with Gemma and then the entire mess with Seth, I really just wanted some peace and quiet.

In other words, I was hoping for Seth to not bother me. There was only one thing Seth was interested in getting from girls, and that was sex.

But I wasn’t easy. Hence why I was one of the few girls left in our school who still had their virginity intact.

But, of course, peace was too much to ask after making a deal with the devil himself. Seth wanted me, and I had agreed to that.

Speak of the devil, he was standing by my locker when I got to it with his phone in his hands, probably texting some girl. I wasn’t stupid. Guys like Seth didn’t settle down. I was doing this strictly because I couldn’t stand the thought of knowing what he was doing to himself and not helping him.

What if someone had tried to help Trent? Would I have found him in a puddle of his own blood?

“Hey, babe,” he greeted, sliding his phone into his back pocket. I rolled my eyes at him. Babe? Didn’t realize he and I were on that kind of level.

“What do you want?” I asked, turning back around and opening my locker.

“Nothing.” I cut my eyes to him in annoyance. “Just wanted to make sure you didn’t open your mouth to anyone,” he said, stepping a bit closer to me, invading my personal space.

I swung around to face him. “Actually, I didn’t tell anyone,” I snapped, hoping Seth wouldn’t be able to tell I was lying. “I told you I wouldn’t; so, I’m not.”

He reached up and traced my jaw with the tips of his fingers. Chills raced down my spine, heating my core. I swallowed thickly as he cupped the side of my neck, brushing his thumb over the bruise on my neck. Leaning down, his lips just barely brushed mine. “Good girl,” he breathed.

My core clenched at his words. Fucking hell, my ovaries were going to explode.

Gemma walked up as Seth released me, his eyes locked on mine. At that moment, I felt like he could read just how badly I wanted him. I’d never felt anything like this before. It was like I was a stupid moth floating in the darkness, attracted to the light his blue eyes threw at me.

With a smirk thrown my way, he shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans and sauntered off. I watched as a girl with white-blonde hair skipped to his side and gripped his upper arm, smiling up at him flirtatiously.

I shook my head in annoyance and turned back to my locker. “Something going on between you two?” Gemma asked me, finally ripping her eyes off Seth to look at me.

I snorted. “I wish there was,” I sarcastically replied. Truth was, I was in over my head with Seth, and I had no idea what the fuck was actually happening anymore. I felt like I was just along for a very hectic, unsafe ride.

A smirk played on her lips. I rolled my eyes at her, knowing she had some wild fucking idea in her head already. “You’re playing hard to get, aren’t you?” she teased.

I actually laughed, though I was annoyed. Yet, I was happy to see she wasn’t as down as she was yesterday. Whatever she and my parents had discussed must have put her mind at ease. “You’re full of jokes today, aren’t you, Gemma?”

She shrugged and smiled at me. “I try.” I shut my locker door, turning to face her. “I need some damn ice cream,” she grumbled. I laughed at her. Seemed like the pregnancy cravings were already starting. “So, how about after school, we stop by the store so I can get myself some ice cream,” she suggested.

“Sounds good,” I told her. I bumped my hip with hers. Despite the front she was putting up, I could tell she was stressed over everything that was happening. “Keep your chin up, yeah?” She drew in a deep breath and nodded her head. “No matter what, you’re still part of my family, Gemma.”

Tears blurred her eyes. “Thanks, Bailey,” she whispered.

When I gotto first period, the classroom was already half full, and I instantly noticed that all of the desks had been grouped into pairs.

With a grunt of annoyance, I slid into my seat, glaring at the seat next to me. I was pretty sure the universe hated me. Not only was I already forced to sit next to Seth because he was a fuck boy, but now we were going to basically be glued together in this class.

This shit sucked.

When Seth walked in, it was like everyone’s eyes were stuck on him. They didn’t leave him until he slid into his seat, typing on his phone again. I rolled my eyes at him, but I was thankful he was too focused on his conversation to pay me any mind.

The teacher stepped into the room and began to shuffle some papers on her desk before looking up to scan the room, her eyes finally landing on me. “Bailey, can I see you up here for a moment?”

“Someone’s in trouble,” Seth taunted in a whisper.

I just rolled my eyes at him. I was the star student—the good girl. I didn’t get in trouble. And I was actually proud of that.
