About ten minutes later, a light knock sounded on Bailey’s bedroom door. I cleared my throat, and it opened, revealing Mom. Her eyes landed on Bailey. She frowned before she stepped out of the way, letting Seth into the room.

Without a word, I stood from the bed, being careful not to jostle Bailey. I watched as Seth pulled his shirt over his head and kicked his shoes off his feet before he slid in bed behind her, pulling her into his arms.

“Seth?” she mumbled, speaking for the first time in fucking hours. My heart clenched in my chest when she slowly opened her eyes to look over her shoulder at him.

“I’m here, baby,” he whispered, pressing a kiss to the back of her head. “I’m here. It’s okay.”

I rubbed my chest as I watched her roll over and circle her arms around him, burying her face against his chest. He tightened his arms around her, pressing his lips to the top of her head.

With a soft sigh, I slipped from the room. I could only hope and pray that Seth saved my little sister before it was too fucking late.

Dad looked up when I stepped into the living room. “Seth with her?” he asked me.

I nodded. “She finally spoke,” I said quietly. She hadn’t breathed a fucking word after the screaming she’d done on the dock.

Dad sighed. “As much as we don’t like it after what he did to her, he may be the only one that can help her,” he told me, but I already knew that—had already come to terms with it. “You need to get Jacob on board. I won’t have anyone jeopardizing her progress, and we know Bailey will cut Seth off if she feels it’s putting a wall between her and her best friend. Gemma has already disappeared. She doesn’t need to lose anyone else.”

A sneer twisted my lips at the thought of Gemma. She’d dropped out, moved back in with her parents, and never spoke to Bailey again. Yeah, I knew Bailey was having a fucking rough time of it, but when I had tried reaching out to Gemma, Gemma had ignored me. She refused to come around to help her best friend.

I didn’t know what the fuck had happened, but Gemma was being a shit friend regardless, especially after everything she and Bailey had been through together. They’d basically been friends their entire lives.

“I’ll get him on board,” I told Dad. “I’m just hoping Seth can help her.”

“He will,” Dad said confidently.
