“Any boyfriend would do that. I’m on his side this time. You should stop meddling with their lives with immediate effect.”

I reorder the same drink, sprawling back on the highchair.

“No number of threats or warnings will deter me from reclaiming what is rightfully mine, Aman.”

“Exactly.” He leans closer. “And Khushi Thakur is not yours.”

“Jhanvi is.” I swallow angrily, and this single phrase silences Aman for a few seconds. “Now tell me why arewehere?”

“So thatyoumeet someone.”

“Someone?” I query and he checks his phone.

“Megha,” he smiles. “Jaya’s cousin. She is here in town. I thought you should meet.”

Aman sighs as his gaze moves down to my clenched fists.

“Look, Aarav. It’s high time you start moving ahead now. We are all worried about you. Daadi has met Megha too and she instantly liked her.”

That’s it. I am about to get up but Aman forces me to sit down again.

“We all want you to be happy and not sulk in Jhanvi’s memories for your lifetime. Now coming to Khushi Thakur.. The early you accept the fact that she is a different identity than Jhanvi, it will be beneficial for all of us. I wouldn’t have minded you choosing Khushi after Jhanvi, be it even for her same face but she’s already dating someone else not for weeks or months but six years Aarav. That kind of relationship no matter how you feel but it looks serious. You can’t have her. So, it’s high time you-”

I raise my finger at Aman’s face. All my anger, pain and frustration surfaced at that one gesture, making Aman go quiet.

“This is my first warning to you, Aman. If you repeat this matchmaking thing with me, I’ll forget we are friends.”

I take the last swig of my reordered drink and then rise to leave only to step back seeing Khushi Thakur there, standing a few feet away from us. She’s in the same business outfit she had worn today for work and doesn't look startled to find me here which means she is not here for anyone else but me.

“Shocked to see me?” She takes a step closer.

Her voice. It does something to my body which had gone cold after Jhanvi’s disappearance from my life. Only her voice could heat me up, even in a chilling place like this. But how did Khushi know I am here? As if she reads my face, Khushi takes another step closer. Aman stands up and I know he is as surprised as I am at the moment.

“Did you think only you could stalk people, Mr. Raichand?”

“Aarav,” I correct. “You called me Aarav the last time we met.”

I am talking about the night when I was sloshed before her home and she took care of me.

Khushi takes the final step towards me, and without breaking our gaze, she tells me what she is here for.

“I’m not the one you think I am, Aarav. Stop this madness because it is messing with my personal life with Rudra. If you don’t, I would not be responsible for the consequences.”

Consequences? She is threatening me? Me? My nose flares in anger which doesn't go unnoticed by her. Aman is a silent spectator so far.

“And I recommend that you channel all of your rage and passion into saving your business from me since your fall there will come without a warning.”

There’s still enough space between us which I cross the moment she finishes. And there my heart starts beating frantically again, signaling me she is my Jaan, but I keep that indications passive for a moment.

“You have no idea whom you are dealing with. I am your nightmare, Ja..” I pause to address her correctly. “... Khushi Thakur.”

No matter how much I remind myself she may not be my Jaan, this word just slips from my mouth whenever I see her.

“I do business unapologetically which means I know how to save my company from baseless threats like yours.”

Her eyes dart in rage, making her look even more beautiful. My body hardens at the prospect of what I would do to her once I’ve evidence apart from my bodily reactions that she is mine. She has not only taken possession of my body but the very essence of my being and every time she is close, my body is on high alert.

“And regarding me meddling with your relationship, it’s high time you break up with him because once I am affirmed you are my Jhanvi, I’m not letting any other man get that close to you again apart from me.”
