“I am sorry,” I tried to touch her again but she pushed me away.

“Don’t say sorry to me, say it to Aarvi when she wakes up tomorrow. If she forgives you, I will and until then don’t even think of touching me.”

“What? No touching you? How fair is that?”

I kept following her out but Jhanvi didn’t stop until we were finally in our bedroom.

“Jaan, don’t do this to me. I said I am sorry. We’ll go to the movie tomorrow, I promise. I.. I won’t go to work at all. Let’s just take a day off, okay? All of us.”

She wasn’t convinced and kept looking for her nightdress. I realized the only way to get her attention was to give her some. So, I chose the sexiest nightgown for her tonight.

“Wear this.”

She frowned at my selection and snatching it from me, placed it back in the closet. Jhanvi then picked another one which I disliked as I could never access her the way I wanted in it.

“Not that one, Jaan. You know it’s complicated to get you out of that.”

She shut the closet and marched to the bathroom defying my command.

“Jaan, don’t do this to me. I swear I…”

And she shut the door on my face. Wow. She shut the door on Aarav Raichand’s face. People are scared to even talk to me and my wife has no regard for my persona at all. Well.. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have forgotten this movie date with my family. But things like this happen when I am shitty busy at work especially when Aman is on a holiday with his wife. It was Jaya’s birthday so he surprised her with a short getaway in the Maldives for 4 nights. And whilst I knew he would be enjoying the company of his wife there; I was going to sulk tonight despite having my wife on the same bed. Damn me!!

I changed my clothes and freshened up in the guest bathroom knowing very well my wife took almost an hour to shower at night before returning to bed. Before heading back to my room, I decided to check on my daughter in her room which was adjacent to ours and though I knew she was sleeping peacefully, I couldn’t stop myself from kissing her and telling her I was sorry for letting her down today.

My three-year-old daughter was sleeping peacefully in her bed and just like her mother, she looked angelic in her sleep. I covered her properly with the quilt and stroked her hair, watching her take soft breaths. I could spend the whole day just watching my baby just like I loved to spend the whole night admiring and devouring her mother.

“Daddy is sorry, Aarvi. Don’t be upset with me please.” I said, kissing her forehead again. She tossed on the bed but continued to sleep and I couldn’t wait for the morning so that I could apologize to her for not keeping up my promise. This was the first time it happened and I wouldn’t let her down again, ever.

When I turned around, Jhanvi was already at the door, watching me but the moment I saw her she went back to our room. God, this woman seriously had temper issues. And I knew when that happened. When her monthly cycle was around. Was it time already? When I entered the bedroom, Jhanvi was already prepared to lie down on the bed. She wore the same nightgown which was far beyond me to access her easily but that didn’t mean I would let her ignore me. The moment she shut the lamps off, I didn’t take time to spoon her from behind.

“I am sorry, Jaan. Come on. Don’t do this to me.”

She tried to push me away but I held her closer, tighter and though she struggled to stay away for some time, she finally gave up. Kissing her earlobe my lips grazed her neck when she snapped at me.

“Goodnight Aarav. Nothing is happening tonight. Thank your stars that I am still letting you touch me.”

I pulled her closer again. With her back touching my chest, my arm around her waist and our legs tangled she had no room to escape.

“I’ll say sorry to Aarvi tomorrow morning and this won’t happen again. Please don’t draw away from me. I can’t breathe if you do that.”

That undid her and the next moment, she turned around in the cage of my arms to look into my eyes.

“We promised to never bring tears in Aarvi’s eyes because of us. And today you broke that promise, Aarav. It’s not just about a movie date, it’s about what we tell her and make her believe. If you were busy, you could have told me and I would have taken her alone or maybe I would have prepared her for the change in schedule. We were ready and waiting for you and that disappointed us both.”

“Sorry,” I murmured again, totally accepting my fault. “You and Aarvi are and will always be my priority. I’ll be careful next time not to hurt you or her.”

Jhanvi finally got convinced and pulled me for a quick kiss. There was nothing gentle about the kiss or my rigid lower body which pressed into her stomach and when she realized that state of mine, Jhanvi instantly pulled away.

“Where do you think you are going?” I asked her as she tried to get down the bed.

“To change. I know you don’t like me in this nightgown. It’s not very accessible.”

My heart pounded knowing she was even ready to change for me again but she didn’t have to. So, I pulled her back on the bed to me.

“You don’t need to put that much effort into changing, Jaan. I have a better option.”

Saying that, I tore off the gown she was wearing, shocking my wife. I did that on purpose for two reasons. One, she didn’t have to change again and two, she would never get to wear that gown ever to annoy me. Problem solved.
