Lost her memories? Is it possible that this is why Khushi is not realizing she is my Jhanvi? But according to Sakshi, her friend fell from the stairs.

“Are you sure she fell from stairs and lost her memories? I mean.. it wasn’t any major accident?”

“Yes. I am sure. Rudra was there with her that time when she fell. Actually, their relationship had turned bitter in the US. Khushi was my best friend at that time and talked to me daily so I knew. She was upset with Rudra after a party and she was planning to leave the company too after that. Then suddenly one day she left and no one had a clue where she was? She wasn’t contactable for days and no one knew where to look for her. Then suddenly one day Rudra told us that he knew where she was and he would get her back. Seems like Khushi needed a break from him and wanted to spend some time alone, away from Rudra and the business. Then one month later, Rudra called me from Scotland telling me that he met Khushi and she wasn’t happy that he was there to bring her back. They fought again and her leg slipped and she fell from the stairs, hurting her head badly. He took her to the hospital where she was operated and that’s when the doctors said that she had lost all her memories.”

I am shocked at the information. Akash presses my shoulder to give me some strength. A lot is going on in my head right now.

“That’s too bad,” Akash clears his throat, expressing sadness. “When exactly did this accident happen in Scotland? Which year?”

“Around two years ago. It was December month when Khushi was operated in Scotland.”

I am overwhelmed. That’s the same month I and Jhanvi had been there. Akash had earlier found proofs of Rudra landing in Scotland alone and then leaving with Khushi after making her fresh passport with an excuse that she’d lost her passport there. Is it possible that the woman Rudra took along with him who lost her memories was Jhanvi and not Khushi? But how did Rudra find Jhanvi in Scotland? And where is Khushi Thakur if the one with Rudra now is my wife, Jhanvi? These questions begin to haunt my mind. All this also explains why she has that little scar on her forehead. I mentally make a note to speak to the hospital in Scotland where she had got operated. Their insight on this memory loss thing will be beneficial for me to dig further on the evidence I am looking for.

When Sakshi continues to share more, I focus back on her.

“For around six months after returning to the US, Khushi was cold and distant from all of us. She had no memories left so trusting people was her problem. But Rudra didn’t leave her side. Every day he looked after her. He started showing Khushi her past through the photographs he had and then shared their encounters and love story with her. That’s how she slowly started believing and trusting Rudra and his father Ratan Singh. Then she urged to resume her role in the RS Group. Though Rudra was skeptical at first, Khushi proved him wrong. It’s like after that tragedy she performed like a pro at everything she did in RS Group. Her skills had sharpened and hence they gave her a better position to handle the tricky competitors. Today she is just the best in that role in the company.”

I know why she’s the best there. Jhanvi had done Business management from London and had tactfully handled her father’s business after his death until she finally stepped down and sold her company to someone who could grow it to new heights, whilst she pursued her dream of handling the Sikand Charity Trust which is now under my supervision. This is where Khushi Thakur got the traits of handling the business so well. Because she isn’t Khushi.. she is my Jhanvi. Earlier my heart and body were confident by the indications and signs they got when Khushi was around me, that she was no one else but my Jaan, but after this conversation with Sakshi, a lot has opened up. Now all I have to do is connect the dots and locate that final piece of evidence that can prove she is not the one she thinks she is. And that… she is mine. She always was.

CHAPTER 11

Khushi

“Who did you say visited you?” I snap at Sakshi over the call which I shouldn’t, considering it’s her birthday today.

Me and Sakshi have been friends from college but after I lost my memories, every relationship I had, changed. And no one is at fault but me. Everyone who knows me has always offered to help get my memories back, including Rudra, his father and Sakshi but nothing worked. Now I have lost hope I would ever piece that part of my life which I lived before all this happened with me. Sakshi’s voice brings me out of my reverie.

“Akash and Aarav. They had come here to my home. Actually, Akash and I know each other through a common friend and Aarav was with him.”

My heart skips a beat.Aarav?

“Aarav Raichand?” I inquire again to be sure my friend Sakshi who is in Singapore is really talking about him.

“Yes, Aarav Raichand. That’s what his name was. That broody looking handsome man,” she chuckles.

He is indeed a broody and handsome man but I also recall his vulnerable face when he loitered for three consecutive nights before my Villa to get a glimpse of me in the hope that I could be his wife.

“Hello? Khushi? Are you there?”

Sakshi’s voice breaks my trance again.

“Yeah. So, what did he tell you?”

“He told me he met you in Mumbai and … you didn’t recognize him. He didn’t know anything about your accident so I…”

“You told him?” I growl.

“Yeah.” She sounds a bit confused now. “Why? Shouldn’t I have told them?”

What the hell! That man seriously is digging my past and trying to find the answers from the people I know becauseIam avoiding him.

“Sakshi, what else did you tell him?”

“Not much but only the part that you lost your memories.”

I shut my eyes. Sakshi has unknowingly given Aarav even more reasons to be suspicious that I could be his wife Jhanvi. I should have known Aarav would go to any extent when he openly asked me about my forehead scar and challenged me that he would prove I was living the identity of a wrong person. But never in my dreams, I thought he would fly to Singapore to meet my best friend and check with her. The nerve of this man!!

“Khushi? What’s the matter? Do you know Aarav Raichand? I hope I didn’t put you in any trouble.”
