She pushes me away with all her might.

“I don’t care, Aarav. I don’t know which Charity Trust you are talking about nor I am the woman you think I am. You have screwed my mind enough from the past few weeks and now that’s really pissing me off.”

The security team rushes to the site and they are about to warn me when I point a finger at them, not to interrupt us and during all this while I don’t leave my gaze from my wife who is still interested in leading the life of Khushi Thakur.

“And listen to me very carefully for one last time, Aarav, as I won’t repeat this. I am Khushi Thakur and even if I am Jhanvi, and you throw all evidence at my feet, I am least interested in returning to you. I’m happy and contented by whatever life and identity I have had for the past two years including the people I am living with. I don’t need unnecessary distractions, especially you.”

The bitterness of her words sears in my body and my eyes burn as she completes that sentence. One more word from her and I won’t mind turning into the devil I was once.. the ‘Devil’she called me once.

“Sir, please step back,” the security team warns me as I take a step towards her again. Good, she doesn't move back or involve the guards yet. But she is confident I wouldn’t touch her again or hurt her before them which is right. She might not accept it but she is still my wife…my Jaanand to make her believe and acknowledge that, I can once again destroy everything that comes in my way. If I could avenge my family to bring justice to my life earlier, I would burn down the world this time to get this woman in my arms again. It’s about time I remind them what it meant to meddle with the love of a big bad wolf!! The only difference is that this time there will be no rules. The world had seen my revenge; now they would witness my rivalry.

“You are going to repent this, Ja-” I pause. She doesn't deserve yet to be called that. “Khushi Thakur. You are soon going to repent every word you just said, every decision you made and every step you take from hereon. I promise.”

“Bring it on,” she says, catching my piercing gaze before turning her back on me and walking away.

The moment she is off my sight, I dial Akash.

“Keep an eye on Rudra Singh. I need all these details, past and present, both. Especially from the time when he met Khushi Thakur.”

Disconnecting the line, I head back to the conference room where my team is waiting for me. Seems like I have too many things to strengthen now, both in my personal and professional life.

CHAPTER 14

Khushi

It is not until the flight to Mumbai takes off that I get time to go over the things that happened since last night. I crossed lines with Aarav Raichand, letting him touch me, kiss me, leave his mark on me. For a matter of few minutes the thought that I could be Aarav’s wife Jhanvi, had consumed me which led me to break into his arms. I wonder what would have happened if Rudra’s call hadn’t interrupted us.

Once Aarav had left last night, I charged into the bathtub to erase off the touch of his fingers, the feel of his lips from my skin but nothing worked. My whole body was on fire still reeling on to his touch, recalling the way his lips felt when we kissed, the scrape of his teeth when he bit my neck. Aarav Raichand had consumed my thoughts, mind, body and soul.

Rudra’s repeated phone call forced me to finish the bath and I called him. He sounded worried when he realized I was a bit drunk and it hurt me like hell imagining what he would go through if he gets to know what happened between me and Aarav in my hotel suite.

“Khushi? Say something. You look tired and angry. Did anything happen there?”

It was a video call so I couldn’t even mask my expressions. I was wearing the bathrobe to hide the hickey that Aarav left on my neck. I hoped it faded sooner but that guilt of letting him go to that extent in pleasuring me still made me shiver. And not to forget my mind was still busy analyzing the root cause of that moment. The allergies!!

“Rudra, you know Jhanvi was allergic to shrimp. Whenever she ate Shrimps, her body started itching. And she also had this weird gold allergy. Got rashes on her body whenever she unknowingly wore gold.”

Rudra was blank for a few seconds.

“Why are we talking about Jhanvi and her weird allergies?”

“Because I too have faced them from last two days.” I snapped. “I.. I ate shrimps and you know my hands itched until I washed them repeatedly with cold water and today… I got this gold chain and guess what? I got bruises all over my neck. How?”

I was not suspicious of Rudra but these answers were a must so that I could move ahead with a clear mind.

“What do you mean how, Khushi? Aarav Raichand was there around you, wasn’t he?”

My eyes darted open in horror. What was he trying to imply?

“Khushi, come on. How long will it take for him to ask the store to spray something on your gold chain before you buy it so that you could get some skin allergy and where did you eat the shrimps? At the conference? He was also present there, wasn’t he?”

My jaw dropped at the accusations Rudra made on Aarav.

“Why.. Why would he do that, Rudra? It’s not possible.”

“Why not? All this love he has for his dead wife is all fake. Do you know he manipulated her to get married to him? He literally used her as a pawn in avenging his grandmother. He has played nasty games even before to make sure she sides with him, Khushi. Why wouldn’t he do it again? You have her face and he is lonely. He is doing this to snatch you so that just like he kept Jhanvi with him all these years, he could keep you by his side.”

Bitterness cut through my chest. Was Aarav Raichand so brutal? Did he really use Jhanvi as a pawn and forced her to marry him? But in that video, they looked like a happy family. And a part of my heart felt his love for Jhanvi was true and beyond any man’s capability.
