I smile at her when Jhanvi interrupts.

“Mommy didn’t get you that. You forced Mommy to buy one.”

That must have happened. I trust my daughter in those regards. Aarvi giggles and runs inside the house. Jhanvi and I wave at Jaya and Amaya as the car leaves the mansion to drop them.

“Why didn’t you warn me she behaves like that?” Jhanvi asks, following me in the house. When I don’t reply, she grabs my hand and stops me. “Stop being so stern all the time. We have to talk cordially at least for Aarvi’s sake.”

I look at our handhold and then my gaze is back on her face.

“I suggest next time you don’t take her out then. In fact, stop spending more time with Aarvi henceforth.”

My reply stuns her.

“What? Why?”

“I don’t want Aarvi to be dependent on you because once you leave, it would be very difficult for me to control her. It’s better you start putting a distance between you two right from this moment.”

Her jaw drops but she doesn't let me walk away when I try to shrug her hold from my hand.

“Don’t pretend to be so ruthless to me, Aarav. I know you can be that to anyone else but me.”

“Oh yeah? And how do you know that?”

That leaves her speechless again but she still throws a few words at me.

“No one needs to tell me what you feel for me. I can feel it too.”

“You do?”

This time I take a step towards her, the one which closes every gap between us and a gasp escapes her lips. She glances back at me with her dove-eyes instantly hardening my lower body but I recall my ignorance game might be affected if I give in now and be cordial with her. So, I step back again.

“Start putting a distance between you and Aarvi from tonight itself.”

Her jaw drops but I don’t wait to argue. She follows me to the bedroom.

“You are testing my patience now, Aarav. I am doing nothing like that. Aarvi is my baby too and you can’t force me to stay away from her.”

“It’s you who want to stay away from us. I am not asking you to walk out, Jhanvi.”

We reach the bedroom arguing the same. That’s when I see her turning to the left side wall and her cheeks flush which I see from the mirror. Why?

“There is something else I need to know.” Her voice stutters as she forces her gaze on me again.

I loosen my tie, turning around to face her.

“Did we .. did we ever…” she swallows and her cheeks turn crimson as if she is shy to complete that question.

“Did we what?” I snap.

She jerks. “Did we use that wall ever?”

I don’t get what she means.

“Use that wall?” I query back. “What is that supposed to mean?”

Jhanvi looks away from me.

“Forget it.”
