“You should find her, Uncle.”

“But Khushi… I mean, Jhanvi. That doesn't end our bond. I’m still your uncle, and you can reach me anytime you need. Also, whatever you have done for our Company will never be forgotten. I want you to continue working for us and even if it is from India I don’t mind.”

I am glad he is still giving me that liberty.

“I was planning to shift to the US,” I mumble and there he goes quiet again.

“Shifting to the US? Then what about Aarav and your daughter?”

I tell him in brief how I’ve wanted to put some distance between me and Aarav so that I can take the decision not because of these external factors, but after I’m sure from my heart and mind that I want the same. He understands my stand but still asks me to be very sure before taking this step because it just doesn’t involve me and Aarav, but also our little daughter who might not be happy with this temporary adjustment. That’s exactly what has been holding me up too.

CHAPTER 29

Aarav

I finish my call with Darcy, Jhanvi’s assistant at the Sikand Charity Trust, taking updates from her on how things are progressing before returning to my bedroom to change. Though for almost a week I’ve been sleeping in a different room at night, I don’t miss coming here every night just to see my wife and baby cuddled up with each other on the bed. Even today, they are snuggling and Jhanvi is telling her some bedtime story, patting Aarvi’s back while the latter is busy playing with Jhanvi’s hair. I recall earlier when Aarvi was small, she used to play with the Mangalsutra Jhanvi wore. During that accident, Jhanvi was wearing that marital chain and we don’t have it in our possession anymore which reminds me I’ll have to make another one for her in the future. As soon as they see me, Aarvi jumps happily.

“Daddy, come.”

She calls me so innocently that I can’t ignore her. Reaching the bed, I scoop her in my arms. She’s wearing a cute pink nightdress, twinning Jhanvi’s, who for a change is wearing a gown which she did previously, from her wardrobe. Jhanvi keeps staring at us as we talk and it’s hard not to glance at her in between. I remember very well how much I liked this nightgown whenever she wore it. Did she purposely choose this one for tonight? Or have her choices turned back to the old ones? I don’t ponder much on that thought specially when Aarvi proposes I sleep with them here. Though I want the same, to sleep with my family, I don’t want to give Jhanvi any hopes that I’ll take her New York going decisions lightly.

“No sweetheart, Daddy has work to do.”

“No..” she screams. “Daddy can do work tomorrow. I want you to sleep with me and Mommy.”

The air shifts between me and Jhanvi as we both glance at each other at the same time. She looks thrilled to know my response and that’s the only reason why I can’t ignore them tonight.

“Okay, Daddy will sleep with you in this room tonight. Happy?”

“Very happy.” Aarvi kisses my cheeks and then hops on the bed back to Jhanvi to tell her the same.

“I heard baby.. I heard.” Jhanvi smiles at Aarvi’s excitement, hiding her own. “Your daddy makes good decisions sometimes,” she mocks, as I rise to head to the bathroom. I never sleep without taking a shower but her mocking makes me grin. Can’t believe she is as excited as our daughter is, or probably more than that.

I take my own sweet time in the shower and when I come out, the sight before me on the bed surprises me again. When I’d gone inside Jhanvi was sleeping in the corner and Aarvi was at the center of the bed but now it’s the other way round. Jhanvi is at the center of the bed and Aarvi at the side, secured by the pillows behind her so that she doesn't roll over. They are still chatting, but the moment Jhanvi’s eyes land on me, she squeals. What the f*ck is in her mind? Does she want me to spoon her and sleep like I did the very first night she was here in the AR mansion with us? I think so.

“Daddy come soon,” Aarvi calls me and I can’t help but get to the bed. But I don’t take my side, instead, I push Aarvi towards the center and remove the pillows that had secured her so that I can take that place. Jhanvi frowns at me as she has no choice but to push herself back to the other corner of the bed, and once again, our daughter is in between us.

Poor Aarvi has no clue her mother wants to sleep in between tonight for some goddamm reason and I want that too secretly, though I don’t show it off in my expressions.

“Aarvi?” Jhanvi interrupts my talks with Aarvi. “Didn’t you want to sleep next to your teddy pillow tonight?”

I scrunch my brows for her lame excuse to sleep in between.

“Yes,” Aarvi nods as Jhanvi quickly takes the pillow which has a teddy bear print on it and puts it behind her.

“Then come on here. Your teddy is waiting for you.”

I want to laugh at the efforts Jhanvi is putting to sleep in between, by luring our child using a pillow. Smart yet a foolish move. Aarvi quickly hops over Jhanvi and sleeps cuddling the pillow forcing Jhanvi to move in the center again. They adjust their position and my body is already hard as I inhale my wife’s scent. Though Jhanvi is pretending to be unaffected by getting to sleep in between, I won’t let her enjoy that state much. I quickly get down from the bed.

“Where are you going now?” She looks disturbed.

“Remembered an important call. You both sleep.”

“Aarav, it’s too late.”

“Can’t push it for tomorrow. I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

I give a kiss on Aarvi’s forehead as Jhanvi longingly watches me do so. My poor wife!! If she needs me that much, all she has to do is ask and drop her plans to fly to New York ever again.
