I sense something wrong in that laughter. It’s mocking me.

“Let’s see who will be dead in the span of the next one hour, Aarav. Me or your lovely wife, Jhanvi?”

“Shut the f*ck up,” I growl rising on my feet.

“Relax, Aarav. Save that energy to cry your heart out once you see your wife’s dead body this time.”

I snatch Aman’s phone and dial Jhanvi to know her whereabouts. She doesn't answer. Where the hell is she?

“That red Audi car number 6799 belongs to her, doesn’t it?”

Damn hell!! That’s the one Jhanvi might use to drive to the clinic. I am already out of my cabin to leave the office while Aman speaks to Akash trying to track the location of Rudra and also to call the Police and inform them about his wicked plans to hurt Jhanvi.

“I warn you, Rudra. One scratch on my wife’s body again and you won’t live to breathe the next second.”

“We’ll see,” he snaps. “First try to save your wife because she’s broken your rule again. Just a few seconds back she got in the red Audi and is self-driving from the clinic to go back to AR Mansion. Your driver had gone away to bring a water bottle for himself. All I had to do was use that minute to dial Jhanvi and tell her that Aarvi was in trouble at home. And yes… the most important part… she doesn't know the breaks are not working.”

“I’ll kill you,” I shout. “If anything happens to her this time, I am going to kill you, Rudra. That’s my promise.”

I disconnect the call and get in the car. Thankfully, the route which Jhanvi will take to go to AR Mansion is the one that goes through my office. She must not have driven very far. Accelerating my car, I dial Jhanvi and she answers.

“Aarav. Thank God you called me. Rudra had called. He said-”

She is panicked.

“He lied to you, Jaan.” I interrupt. “Aarvi is fine at home because my guards would have told me if she wasn’t. Now listen to me carefully. Rudra has failed your car brakes.”

“What?” she shouts again in panic. “Oh my god. Aarav. He is right. My brakes.. they … they don’t seem to work.”

I fist my fingers around the steering wheel. I don’t want to lose her again. I just got her back. I can’t lose my love.

“Where are you?” I bark. “Which area?”

“6thlane of the Andheri bridge.”

“Okay, don’t panic. Take the next left before the Mall and drive straight on that old bridge.”

“Aarav.. I am scared.”

“I know, Jaan.. But you got to trust me. This time I’m not going to let you go. I promise.”

“Stay on the phone. Don’t disconnect.”

“I am not disconnecting this line ever.”

I assure her and then drive speedily on the same road where I have asked her to take the diversion. I keep chasing her car, bypassing all the others, even breaking two traffic signals. I don’t care if they impose a fine on me because I want to save my wife first. We don’t speak for a long minute but I hear her breaths. She is scared and God knows so am I.

“I love you, Aarav.” She whimpers.

“I love you too, Jaan. Just keep driving. What is the speed of your car?”

“70kmph”

“Okay, not bad. I can see you.”

“Really?”

“Yea.. Keep driving.”
