I see her car and am also well aware that there’s too much traffic ahead if she connects to the main road. I have to stop her before that. That’s when I see a construction site where she’ll reach in a minute.

“Jhanvi, you see the construction site ahead?”

“Yes.”

“Okay, drive in there. Look for a sand heap.”

“What if there is none?”

“There will be, Jaan. Find one and keep circling that site until you find it. I am chasing you fast.”

“Okay.”

I see her taking a diversion for the construction site and in no time, I enter the area too. There is a small pile of sand but it’s not enough for her to bring the car to a halt.

“Aarav? Speak to me.”

“Go for the sand.”

“How? It’s not enough.”

“I said do it, Jaan. I’ve got you.”

She trusts my instincts and in no time drives towards the sand heap. I know the only way I could stop her is cutting off her way by stationing my vehicle before hers once she hits the sand heap. It will surely slow her down and then if she takes a hit to my giant SUV, though the effect could be enormous and risky, that can still stop her car. So, I take the risk.

Just when Jhanvi is about to hit the sand heap, I park my car before the sand and in no time her car bumps with mine.

“Aarav…” she shouts badly, unhappy that I played that stunt. That I risked my life too for her.

I jerk on my seat to somehow balance my wheel and in a few seconds, her car along with mine comes to a standby. Phew!!

The next minute I get down from my vehicle and run to pull her out. Jhanvi’s forehead is bleeding because she probably hit her head on the steering wheel when her car bumped into mine. She’s too shocked and still at the moment when I bring her out and squeeze her to me into a bone-crushing hug.

“It’s okay.. You are fine.. You did it, Jaan..”

I pull away, cup her face and shower kisses on her face while she stares at me in a haze.

“Jhanvi?” I pat her cheeks when she doesn't react. My wife is in a state of shock. “Jaan? Talk to me.” I shout, but she passes out in my arms.

***************

An hour later, the doctor comes out from the emergency room and tells me she is fine. Jhanvi is still unconscious though, as the accident trauma has panicked her too much. Jaya, Mohit and Daadi are already here as I told them about the accident while driving back my wife to the hospital.

“She’ll be fine, Aarav. You saved her.” Daadi assures me as I swallow the painful knot in my throat seeing my wife unconscious on the hospital bed.

That’s when my phone rings and it’s Aman so I don’t skip answering.

“We’ve got him, Aarav. We found Rudra.”

Aman’s assurance that they could trace Rudra is enough to boil my blood again.

“Where are you going?” Daadi asks as I stride to the exit door.

“Look after her. I’ll be right back.”

She doesn't stop me because it’s obvious she knows it’s futile.

I drive to the location Aman texted me. It’s a cheap hotel in south Mumbai which seemed to be Rudra’s hideout for the last few weeks. Seems Rudra was checking out after giving me that threatening call and was flying out of the country before Akash found him.
