“No,” she shakes her head, sending the ponytail bouncing. “You didn’t scare me. I’m just surprised.”

I rub slow circles along the top of Ruth's back, waiting for her breathing to calm. Mid-morning sunshine streams through the living room window, illuminating her from behind like a renaissance painting. There are no blinds or curtains on any of Ruth's windows. She's trying desperately to bring as much of the outdoors as possible into her cozy little space.

“I just got out,” I tell her when she looks steady again. “Your letters and testimony went a long way to helping me with that. It’s how I was able to get this job.”

Ruth’s eyes widen as Snickers plops onto her lap. The cat eyes me warily from beneath Ruthie’s gentle pets.

“I’m so sorry.” She looks less anxious and unsteady now, but there’s a sadness in her eyes that I would do anything to soothe away. “For everything.”

“Don’t be.” I take one of her trembling hands in mine. “It wasn’t your fault.”

Ruth lets out another trembling breath, shaking her head.

“Nothing about today is going according to schedule.” Her half-laugh shoots straight through me.

My zipper is pressing painfully against my throbbing cock as Ruth squeezes my hand.

“I’ve had enough schedules to last me a lifetime,” I meet her smile with one of my own.

Heat rushes to her pale face, and I can tell she’s getting ready to apologize again.

“I’m sorry your morning didn’t go according to plan,” I go on before she can. “But I’m happy that I got to run into you.”

I'm not ready for her to jump at me, her arms coming around my neck for a tight hug. Snickers leaps to the floor and promptly sets about taking a bath like that was her plan all along.

Ruthie's body feels even better against mine than I dreamed of. The soft swell of her full tits presses against my chest, and I give in to the temptation to turn my head against her neck and breathe in her scent.

“I’m so glad you’re out,” she sighs into my shoulder before pulling back. I miss the contact and the feel of her curves in my hand as soon as she’s gone. “It’s all over now. It’s finally over.”

Another spike of anger shoots through me. Now that I've been released, my file is unsealed, which means the Bruno family knows Ruth's name. It won't take them long to find her, but I'll be here when they do. Ready. Waiting.

“You’re safe now,” I give Ruth’s hand one last squeeze before standing to go. “I promise.”
