“Ready to party it up tonight. You? Sunny here?”
“Yeah, she’s upstairs.”
“What’s going on with you two?”
“We’re taking it slow, so I don’t fuck it up this time,” I smirk.
“If ya call fuckin’ her every time she’s here slow, good for ya.” He laughs.
The door opens, and we look up. Troy walks through the door, and I get out of my seat.
“Glad you could make it, Troy.” I offer him my hand, and he takes it.
“Thanks for inviting me.” He looks around and nods to a few of the brothers.
“Can I get you something to drink?”
“Whatever you’re drinking is fine.”
“Root beer, okay?”
“Yeah.” He smiles, and I go to the kitchen and grab him one.
“Here you go.”
“Thanks.”
We walk over to the couch, and we sit down.
“How’s everything going,” I ask as I take a drink.
“Same shit, different day. Always trying to catch the bad guy.”
I see Sunny come down the stairs, and she smiles when she sees Troy, and comes over to us.
When Troy sees her, he stands up and gives her a hug.
“How are you doing, Sunny?”
“I’m doing pretty good. Between work and Ice, I’m pretty busy. How’s everything with you?”
“It’s good. How’s Octavia?”
Sunny and I reply at the same time, “She’s doing great.” We’re on the same wavelength. Shit with her is good.
“And Neo?”
Sunny goes on a tangent telling him how smart, handsome, and witty he is, even yanks out her phone and shows him all these photos and videos.
Troy looks at me like she’s crazy, but I mouth, “Go along with it.”
He shrugs, and he does without missing a beat. After she finishes, Troy smiles at me, then says, “I’ve never seen you this serious with a woman before.”
“I know I’ve fucked around a lot in the past, but I’m a changed man now and want to make sure it sticks. I’m not going back to where I was. This is what I want, and I’ll work hard every day to stay here.”
Troy grabs my hand and says, “I’m really proud of you. Stay on the path you’re already on. It seems to be a good one.”
I smile and take his hand.
