Page 17 of Only For Him

As if conjured up out of her thoughts, her phone rang. She knew without looking it was Vic.

She grabbed it off the counter beside the tub. She hesitated. Answering immediately would make him think she was waiting for his call. But… she couldn’t resist.

She clicked it on. “Hello, Vic.”

“Hello, Addison. How are you doing this evening?”

“I’m full of yummy ham, so I’m doing just fine.”

He paused, and she wondered what he was thinking about. Usually, she was good at letting long pauses go, especially when dealing with men. Her father had always been quiet, so she was pretty good at ignoring the uneasy feeling of long silences.

With Vic, it was different. Something about him got under her skin.

“So, how are you doing?” she asked.

“Fine.”

She shifted, and the water sloshed against the side of the tub.

“Was that water I heard?”

“Yep.”

“Washing dishes?”

She chuckled. “I guess if you could call me a dish, then yes.”

“You’re in the tub?”

His voice had deepened. God, she loved his voice, especially when it dipped low, rolling into that flat Maine accent.

“Yep. All warm and wet. Pretty slippery too.” She couldn’t help it and had to bite her lip to keep from laughing.

A pause…then a groan. “You’re a mean, mean woman, Addison.”

Then she couldn’t help it. She did laugh. There was enough depreciating humor in Vic’s tone that she knew he was smiling.

“I tried to warn you away from me.”

“I don’t believe you warned me. It was more of being a brat to discourage me.”

Damn, the man had her number. “So, what are you doing calling me?”

He hesitated. She didn’t know if he was trying to draw out his answer or trying to figure out just how to answer her.

“I said I would leave it up to you.”

She didn’t know where he was leading the conversation, but she’d play along. “Yes.”

“It doesn’t mean I can’t try to convince you.”

She frowned as she leaned back and closed her eyes. “Oh, yeah?”

“Yeah.”

She had to fight another hot burst of lust that danced through her blood at the one little word. She shouldn’t want this, but a small part of her did. No, scratch that. A huge part of her did, and it was screaming to be heard.

“And what does that entail?”
