“Well, a little of this and a little of that.”

She couldn’t fight the smile. Vic was an attractive man, but he was irresistible when flirted. She had a feeling she hadn’t seen the full force of it either.

“Are you going to tell me?”

“Nope. I think it’s best if I keep you guessing.”

She laughed and opened her eyes. “Ah, come on, Vic.”

“No. I kind of like leaving you unbalanced.”

“Talk about mean.”

He chuckled. “Sweet dreams, Addison.”

Then he hung up.

Irritated, she tossed her phone back on the count.

“Damn, man.”

But she was smiling when she leaned her head back to enjoy the rest of her bath.

ChapterSix

The hum of music beat against the walls ofCapital Punishment’soffice as Vic tried to concentrate on the new contracts. It wasn’t easy. He had a massive migraine starting, and he was a man who just didn’t get them. Not anymore.

With each second of listening to this music, a scream lodged in his throat. Granted, it was all his damned fault. Vic had been the one who suggested advertising a twenty-something kind of theme. And damn, they liked their music loud.

“So, old man, you want to tell me how it goes with that cute little flower girl?”

He didn’t even look at Justin because he would probably snarl at him. His entire problem was all because of Addy. For two weeks, he hadn’t seen her. Vic had thought it would be best to keep his distance. Sort of his absence helping her heart grow fonder. Of course, what resulted was that he’d turned surly. He rarely lost his temper these days, but today, he’d made a paralegal cry at the office.

“No.”

“That’s what I thought. You can’t wait around forever.”

He was apprehensive he might do that. “I’m not.”

“I’ve said it before. You’re a man who needs action.”

He looked up at his best friend and said, “I like you, man, love you like a brother, but I don’t go that way.”

For a second, Justin didn’t say anything. Then he threw his head back and laughed.

“I can’t believe there are people who think you don’t have a sense of humor.”

“It’s a gift.”

“Seriously, brother, you need to go get that filly.”

“I don’t think Addison would want you to refer to her as a horse.”

Justin shrugged. “Doesn’t matter. The woman didn’t give me a second look. And you need to do something. Either find another woman or go get her.”

He leaned back in his chair. “That’s the problem. Addison thinks that this is all about me forcing something on her. I can’t do that, or I’ll lose.”

“She has a dual personality. I could tell in everyday life she’s dominant.”
