He shook his head. “But you do have a habit of reacting to things.”

She wanted to argue with him, but she knew it was true. Or had been. Since she’d taken on the responsibility of running the shop by herself, she’d stopped doing things like that. But, still, bringing it up wasn’t cool.

Then, she felt his fingers dance over the back of her hand. She looked up at him. “I can understand that you would have a lot of offers. I didn’t mean you would take them. A guy waiting for a few weeks might start to wonder, though.”

She should have told him that she would never submit to him. Instead, she had waited. And that wasn’t like her.

“So, tell me about the wedding last night.”

She looked at him. “You want to know about the wedding?”

“Sure.”

She took a sip of her coffee and studied him. Dammit, he got the way she liked her coffee just right too.

“Why?”

“Because I want to know.”

She leaned forward and studied his eyes. Nothing but sincerity shown in the depths of his gaze.

“Well, first, you must understand that I wasn’t dealing with a bridezilla. Those I can usually handle.”

He smiled, his shoulders relaxing. “Yeah? What were you dealing with?”

“A groomzilla. The bride could have cared less. I seriously think he should worry about how long the marriage will last. I’ve never seen a woman so disinterested in her own wedding in the business in all my years of working in the business.”

“So, what did this guy do?”

She laughed, thinking of the things the man had insisted on for the reception.

“First, the number of flowers was just insane.”

“I would think that would make you happy.”

She laughed. “Yeah, it did, but dealing with the groom was worse than any bridezilla.”

“Was the reception nice?”

She wanted to ask him why this was so important to him, but she didn’t want to ruin the moment. Instead, she described the more amusing moments, enjoying the warmth of her little kitchen and the big, booming laugh of a sexy man who brought her donuts.

ChapterSeven

Afew days later, Addy still didn’t know what to think. He’d been charming and sweet, and so not like the Dom she thought he was. But then, again, Mal wasn’t that much of a pushy man. She wasn’t sure what he did in the bedroom, but Addy knew that Amanda wouldn’t put up with crap off him. And thinking about that was a little too much like contemplating a sibling’s sex life. Ick.

She sighed.

“Hey, Addy, what’s wrong?” Lindsey George, her assistant, asked. She glanced at the woman and was once again thankful Lindsey had applied for the job three months ago.

“Nothing. Just tired.”

“Tsk, tsk. You’re not telling the truth.”

“What do you mean by that?” Addy asked as she busied herself with rearranging plants.

“Oh, come on. I know when a woman is pining for a man.”

Lindsey let her Georgia accent thread her voice, pulling a laugh from Addy. Lindsey didn’t let her southern roots show that much, but she’d let loose with it every now and then. The petite blonde looked so sweet, but Addy knew better.
