“I can almost guarantee that your father is not spending all his nights alone.”

She frowned. “I don’t think I want to know about that.”

He chuckled. “Yeah, probably not.”

“Why don’t I clean the dishes—”

“You’re my guest.”

“Okay. We could clean up together.”

He smiled. “Sounds like a plan.”

It was a little too comfortable, being there in the kitchen, standing in her bare feet, cleaning up dinner like they were a…couple. Maybe the wine had gone to her head, or perhaps it was the warmth of the moment, but she looked up at him and leaned closer, licking her lips.

She needed contact, wanted to feel the press of his lips against hers.

“Addison…”

Her name came out as a warning and plea. She shivered.

“Just one kiss, Vic.”

He shuddered as if fighting against something. Then, he seemingly lost the battle, groaning as he cupped her face and pressed her mouth to his. He slid his tongue against her lips, and she quickly opened her mouth, allowing him access. She was lost, overwhelmed with the power of the kiss.

And as fast as it had started, he pulled back, releasing her. They were both breathing heavily.

“I can’t keep doing this, Addison. I thought I could be patient and give you time, but I can’t. I need an answer. Either you agree, or you don’t. I can’t stand a woman who tries to fuck with my mind.”

The words were torn out of the dark recess of his soul. It was the most he had ever shown her, and she knew that he was being truthful. This was no game, no playing. This was about their relationship; she knew he would walk away right now if she told him. She had all the power, and because of that revelation, she answered.

“Yes.”

“What?”

She licked her lips and met his gaze with her own. “I said yes.”

His face was a mask of indifference, but she knew differently. She could feel the hum beneath the surface, the primal beat of need that pulsed through her blood.

“You know what that means?”

Submission.Under his control. The thought used to make her panic, but she knew the answer at that moment.

For him…she would.

“Yes,” she said, her gaze never breaking from his. She held out her hand, and for a moment, he said nothing, did nothing.

Had she left it too late?

Then, he stepped forward, taking her hand and tugging her hard against him. He leaned down and kissed her, his tongue sweeping in to take full possession of her mouth. She surrendered, allowing him to control even this moment.

He pulled back, slipping his hands up her body to cup her face. She loved the feel of his callused fingers against her skin. It was something she had never expected of a man who wore tailored suits and played in the world of justice.

Resting his forehead on hers, he said, “No going back.”

“No.”

Then, he stepped back and lifted her into his arms.
