“It’s going pretty well. A little overwhelming, but everyone here has been great.” Olivia’s hair is pulled back in a ponytail, and her cheeks are pink. It’s evident she’s had a busy morning, and I find her adorable.

Olivia’s friend joins her side with an outstretched hand for me to shake.

“I’m Anni,” she says. “It’s so nice to meet you. I love your books!”

“Thanks,” I reply as I shake her hand. I glance at the cupcakes on the table behind them, and I’m immediately impressed by how they look. “Wow, those cupcakes look amazing!”

“Thank you,” Anni replies. “Would you like one?”

Before I can respond, she reaches over and grabs one off the table and hands it to me. It has white frosting with multi-colored sugar crystals and a tiny fondant book on top. The book even has tiny writing on the cover, and I take a closer look to read it.Moby Dick.

“We wrote classic titles on all the books,” Olivia explains. “Which one did you get?”

“Moby Dick,” I reply with a smirk. “It’s a very nice touch. I’m impressed.”

Suddenly, I notice a couple of book signing attendees behind Olivia and Anni, discreetly trying to take a picture of me on their phones. This is weird, and I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it.

“I should head back to my table. Will you be home tonight, Olivia?”

As if surprised by my question, she stutters, “Ye-yeah.”

“Cool. Maybe we can hang out again?”

She nods, and her cheeks blush. “That’d be great.”

“Thanks for the cupcake. I’ll save it for later,” I say before turning to go back to my table.

“Thanks!” Anni and Olivia respond in unison.

As I walk back to my table, I actually feel giddy. What is it about Olivia that makes me feel this way? It’s been awhile since I’ve had interest in a woman like this. Olivia is like a breath of fresh air whenever I’m around her. She’s easy to talk to, and I’d like to get to know her better.

Hopefully, that’s exactly what will happen tonight.

The rest of the day seems to go by quickly. My line never dies down, and by the time the signing closes, my hand is sore from signing so many books. As Diane and I walk out of the banquet hall together, she hands me a paper with information I need for the rest of the weekend.

“The dinner tomorrow night starts an hour after the signing ends, so you’ll have time in between to freshen up. Also, you have a plus-one you can bring, if you know of anyone who’d like to attend.”

I cock an eyebrow. “You mean you’re not my plus-one?”

“No, I have my own invitation. All authors get to attend with a plus-one as well as their personal assistant or publicist.”

“Oh. All right then. I may have someone who wants the extra ticket.” Olivia immediately springs to mind.

“Who was the woman with the cupcakes you were talking to earlier, anyway? You made a beeline over to her when you took that break earlier. I thought you had to use the restroom or something, but I guess you just wanted a cupcake.”

I chuckle. Of course Diane noticed. She’s very observant and doesn’t miss a thing––which makes her an excellent publicist. “She runs the bed and breakfast I’m staying at, along with her aunt. She also helps her friend, the bakery owner. I knew she was helping deliver the cupcakes today, and I told her I’d say hi if I saw her.”

“Uh-huh,” Diane says. “She’s also a hot little thing whose ass looks great in jeans.”

I laugh. “Oh, Diane. You would notice.”

“As if you didn’t?” She nudges me with her elbow. “Is she into you, or do you think I have a chance?”

Shaking my head, I reply, “I’m not actually sure what her sexual preference is. I’m hoping she’s into guys, though.”

“Well, let me know if she’s not.” Diane stops and turns to look at me. “So, tomorrow, you have another day filled with signing books, followed by the dinner that fans paid extra to attend, so they’d get a meet and greet opportunity with the authors. Then, on Sunday, there’s just a few hours of book signing again, and that’s it.”

I peruse the paper she handed me, which has everything typed out that she just said. “Sounds good.”
