And that’s exactly what I do once I’m done with breakfast. I head up to my room to finish packing my things, then go back downstairs and ring the bell sitting on the front desk. It doesn’t take long for Olivia to appear from the kitchen.

Instead of going behind the front desk, though, she walks around to me and wraps her arms around me. “Is it time already?”

I nod as I hold her close. “Yeah, unfortunately it is.”

We stand like this, embracing each other for I don’t know how long. Minutes go by. We don’t want to let go. I take in the scent of her hair––coconut––and the way her body feels against mine. I want to commit it to memory until I can see her again.

Finally, we pull apart from one another.

I hand her my room key.

She takes it, rolls her eyes, then turns to walk behind the front desk. “Next time you come here, you don’t need to make a reservation, you know.”

“I don’t?” I ask, cocking an eyebrow.

Shaking her head, she replies, “No. You can bemyguest and stay inmyroom.”

I smile. “Sounds perfect.”

She types something out on the computer keyboard, then asks, “Do you need a receipt for your stay?”

Remembering that part of my stay was for business, I say, “Yes, please.”

Olivia types something else on the keyboard, very business-like. I can’t help but notice how adorable she is when she’s working, and I crack a smile at the thought.

She stops typing, and I hear the sound of a printer. She reaches below the counter and then produces a detailed receipt for my stay. “Here you go,” she says, setting it on the counter. She explains everything on the receipt to me, as if she’s done this a thousand times with other customers. It’s weird to have her treat me like a regular customer.

“Do you have any questions?” she asks once she’s finished.

“You’re beautiful,” I say.

She smiles, and her cheeks blush. “That’s not a question. But thank you.”

“Will you walk me to my car?” I ask, hoping she’ll say yes.

“Of course I will,” she says before coming out from behind the front desk again.

I grab my suitcase in my left hand and take her hand in my right. We walk outside hand in hand, neither of us saying a word as we walk to my SUV. I don’t know what else to say to her. It’s silly that I feel so strongly about leaving her when I know we’ll be together again in just five days, but for some reason, it’s hard for me to leave Olivia. A lot harder than I expected it would be.

I put my suitcase in the back of my car, and then I wrap Olivia in my arms, holding her close.

“It’s only five days,” she says.

“We’ll talk every day, okay?”

Her head bobs up and down against my chest. “We better.”

She finally looks up at me, and I lower my lips to hers.

Saying goodbye to Olivia is harder than I expected.

Monday can’t come soon enough.

Olivia

“You’re here!” Chelsea exclaims as she opens her front door, welcoming me with open arms.

I hug my friend. “It’s so good to see you!”
