“You’re so full of shit.” She rolled her eyes.

“And you’re not?” He countered, continuing to move towards her as she backed away down the alley. She smirked but didn’t answer. He grinned, “By the way, this back and forth doesn’t count as talking.”

She groaned, loudly, but there wasn’t any real frustration in it, “Fine. Let’s go loverboy.”

If she thought he was going to object to being called an endearment she was sorely mistaken. He found it absolutely adorable. He also knew if he told her so that she might never call him that again so he didn’t even mention it.

“Where are we going?” He followed when she turned around and started walking away from him.

“My place. It’s just around the corner and it’s a hell of a lot more private than this.”

“You’re worried about privacy now, after I just went down on you in a public alley?”

Maya grinned at him over her shoulder, “I’m a woman of many mysteries but I guess you’ll just have to learn that about me the more time we spend together.”

He sped up again, racing to keep up with her. She was throwing his own words back in his face and all he could do was grin and chase after her. She was feisty and fiery and sexy as hell. Whatever she threw his way, he was going to be ready for it because he wasn’t letting her go. Not now. Not ever. She was perfect for him and whatever magical power or unearthly god had deigned to decide she was his, he would spend the rest of his life being grateful.

Chapter Eleven

Maya’s body was warm and soft and sated from the orgasm that Zander had given her. Her heart had apparently followed suit, melting into a puddle of squishy, hopeful optimism. Even her usually on edge wolf was lounging about, purring like a contented housecat.

Traitor.

He’d given her an orgasm and turned her brain to mush. It was the only reason she could come up with for why she’d invited Zander up to her apartment and agreed to give him a chance instead of running like hell in the other direction. She consoled herself with the knowledge that despite how needy and out of control she’d felt when they were intimate that she’d managed to keep her wolf at bay and ignored the urge to sink her teeth into him to seal the bond forever.

She was taking that as a good sign because truth be told, she was fairly certain a fight with fate wasn’t one she could win.

Was it one she even wanted to?

Zander’s willingness to fight with her, fight for her, had earned him major points. She liked that fate had chosen a man who had as much determination as she did, someone that she couldn’t run over and who wouldn’t just go along with whatever she said to keep the peace. She might not know much about her fated mate yet but what she did know was that he was sexy, confident, stubborn and had a mouth, and a tongue, made for sin.

And holy hell, how had she missed the fact his tongue was pierced?

She knew how of course. She’d been avoiding looking directly at him. But now that she knew about the little silver barbell in his tongue that he used with wicked delight, she couldn’t help but wonder if there were more pleasure filled surprises waiting for her to discover beneath his clothes.

Something told her there was and her body heated all over again with the need to mark him, claim him, brand him as hers before any other female in the pack got the crazy idea he was available.

Maya forced her feet to keep moving, to climb the stairs to her apartment and ignore the heat of him behind her. The smell of sex lingered on them both and she prayed that Nova wasn’t home to say I told you so. At the same time, as she unlocked the door, she secretly hoped that her sister was inside because her body clearly needed a chaperone and based on her actions so far tonight, she wasn’t any good at the job herself.

“Nova? You here?” She opened the door and let herself inside, holding it for Zander to follow her and then shutting it behind him, frowning when she didn’t get an answer. “Nova?”

“Looks like there’s a note here.” Zander answered instead, picking up a sheet of paper from the coffee table and raising an eyebrow as he read it silently to himself.

“What’s it say?” She moved to take it from him.

“Nova is staying the night at Leo’s house to give us some time alone.” He shook his head, his eyes wide with wonder. “Does that mean… did she… see this? See us? In her head I mean?”

Maya groaned, balling the note up and tossing it back on the table, “Apparently.”

“She didn’t warn you ahead of time?”

“No.” Maya moved towards the kitchen, “You want something to drink?”

“Water?” He followed behind her even though she wished he would stay in the living room and give her some much-needed space.

“Coming right up.” She opened the fridge and found two bottles, tossing him one before cracking the lid on her own and taking a big gulp.

“Why wouldn’t she tell you if she saw a vision of us together tonight?”
