I bristle at that wording, thinking back to what Aaron said earlier today. Granted, it’s a phrase rooted in our friendship, but still.

What is happening to me? I used to be fun. Make out with a different guy at every party. Not caught up in a stupid relationship. Not wondering about Aaron and me.

I want to be fun again.

Bold.

That’s it. I’ve gotta do it.

Here?

Is Davey even here?

I don’t know. I haven’t ventured around much. Guess it’s time.

I head upstairs and look around. As I get to the kitchen, Trevor comes in from the deck and makes a beeline for me, concern on his face.

“What’s wrong?” I ask, frowning.

“You still with Davey?”

I’m trying not to be.

“Uh, for the moment. Why?”

He winces a little, then says, “Well, he’s out on the deck. He was kinda—”

“Kinda what, Trev?” I ask, voice flat.

“Well, he had his arms wrapped around a couple of girls.”

I throw my head back and roll my eyes.

Okay, universe. I get it. Now’s the time.

I step around Trev, headed for the porch.

Ain’t nothing to it but to do it.

Trevor scrambles after me. “Where are you going?”

“Um, to dump his ass.”

“Here?”

“No, I thought we’d have a nice steak dinner first—yeah, here!”

“Okay. Do you want me to get—”

I hold my hand up, because even though the six of us are a team, I can actually handle things by myself. I’ve yet to figure out why everyone seems to think I can’t.

“No. I want to do this on my own.”

“Okay, well, I’ll be around. Like, I’ve got your back.”

I give him half a smile and roll my eyes. “Thanks, Trev.”

He points through the open sliding door to where Davey has his arms around two girls. A tall, leggy one and a shorter one with huge boobs.
