“Oh, come on, Beautiful, don’t you know I’d doanythingfor you?” he says with a wink.

“I think you might’ve enjoyed it,” I say, smiling as I step back from him. Because I am only human and that kiss was hot. I always feel some kind of spark when I kiss him, no matter how friendly the kiss. They always leave me feeling… tingly. In the best way.

“Maybe,” he says, running his finger and thumb over his lips in the sexiest way.

“Well, I hope so, because I think you’re gonna be stuck being my fake boyfriend this week,” I say with a smirk.

He sighs dramatically, but his eyes dance. Then his face breaks into a huge smile.

“Honestly? It sounds like fun. We can fake date for the week and have fun on Valentine’s and at the dance together, what do you say? Unless you’d rather go find Ryan,” he teases.

I playfully smack his shoulder. “I think I’d much rather go with you. But if you’re gonna be my fake boyfriend, I expect you to do it up right, kisses in the hall—on the cheek is fine—unless you want more,” I say, giving him a sultry look, which makes his grin grow wider. “And flowers and—”

“I get the idea,” he says. Then he throws an arm around my shoulder and walks the few steps toward my math class with me. “I think this’ll be fun. Plus, now we get to spend the week having a little bit of fun when neither of us were excited about Valentine’s Day or the dance before.”

He gives me a tight squeeze and a kiss on the cheek. Then he leans in and whispers in my ear, “I’ll loop Sarah, Joel, and Mackie in, you tell Miles.” Then louder he says, “I’ll be back to meet you after class, babe. Love ya.” He winks at me and strolls away as I wander into class, laughing.

Miles looks me over.

“The fuck was that?”

Trevor is laughing because he’s already figured out what we’re doing.

“Ryan Hastings tried to ask me to Formal.”

“Ew, no,” Nick says, sliding into his seat behind me. “That why you were making out with Cooper in the hall?”

Miles’s eyes widen in amusement. “Making out?”

“No. Just kissing. We had to sell it. Thankfully, we did.” I shudder. “The thought of going to the dance with a guy who clearly wanted to take my virginity after… no thanks.”

“Should’ve asked me,” Nick says with a grin.

I smack his arm.

“Oh, by the way, did I help you close the deal?” I ask Miles.

“Worked like a charm,” he says with a smirk.

“What does that mean?” Nick asks.

“Oh, it’s a system. Whenever he’s hitting on a girl, I walk up, squeeze his arm, say ‘hi’ and he’ll tell me he’ll see me later or something. She’ll get super jealous and he’ll act like it was no thing and then ask her out.”

“And then they say yes. Every time,” Miles says with a smirk.

He fist bumps me as Nick takes me in.

“How do I get in on this action?”

“You’d have to pay me to get me to touch your bicep, Nick.”

He gets out his wallet and slides me a twenty.

“Gladly, you’re a hot commodity right now, Rae.”

“Oh boy,” Miles mutters as I rip the twenty from Nick’s hand and spin around to face him.

“I’m a commodity now?”
