Me: When did you put that on my window?

Ace: Let’s just say I’ve never run faster and was maybe hiding at the bottom of the stairs when you grabbed it. I’m still catching my breath.

Me: You’re a goof. I’ll see you later :)

I get my homework done pretty quickly, so I get everything ready to look at the stars. I grab my sleeping bag, an extra comforter, and change into my coziest sweats. And bymineI mean my sweatpants with one of Aaron’s baseball hoodies that I stole from him last year. It’s so big and cozy. It used to smell like him, too, but I washed it so many times it doesn’t anymore, which makes me kinda sad.

I take the stuff outside and get set up. I’m already lying down on the sleeping bag, covered with the comforter, when Aaron walks onto the deck.

He smiles brightly when he sees me, like he didn’t already spend most of his night with me. “Hey, Beautiful.”

“Hi. Get in here. I dressed warm, but not warm enough. I need your heat.”

He laughs a little and says, “That’s all I’m good for, huh?” He slides in next to me and wraps me in his arms.

“Nah. You’ve been an excellent fake boyfriend. Seriously. You made this week so awesome for me.”

He shrugs. “It was fun for me, too.”

“Maybe we should make it a tradition,” I say. “Like if we’re both single on Valentine’s Day, we’ll spend it together.”

A smile grows on his face. “I like that plan.”

We lie together for a while, staring at the stars, naming some constellations and picking out other groups of stars that look like silly things.

Finally, he intertwines his hand with mine and says, “Make a wish,” as he points to a very bright star.

I smile because I knowexactlywhat I’m wishing for tonight.

I inhale deeply and close my eyes. Then I open them, exhale, and make my wish.

I wish Aaron and I would celebrate a lot more Valentine’s Days together.

I squeeze his hand. “Your turn.”

He nods. I see him close his eyes and hear him inhale. Then he exhales, opens them, and stares up at the sky. But then he starts saying it out loud.

I squint at him. “What are you doing?”

He smiles at me. “You need to hear this wish. Or maybe you need toreadit.”

Then he hands me a piece of paper, which I quickly open.

Love note #7

In honor of my final note to you, I want to reveal my wish and hope it still comes true…

I wish Rae would be my date for the Winter Formal.

What do you say, Beautiful? Make my wish come true?

I turn to him with a wide smile.

“Hell yes,” I say, squeezing his hand tightly. “I mean, I know that was a formality, but I’m excited. It’ll be a fun end to our week of fake dating.”

“It definitely will.” He smiles and lets out a content sigh as I snuggle up against him.

And as I lay there, I can’t help but think about our wishes and hope that mine comes true too.

I never thought I’d wish to be single on such a romantic day, but if it means I get to spend it like this, with Aaron… I hope I never have a date for Valentine’s Day again.
