“Mmm.” He kisses me again, letting his tongue slide into my mouth.

I do love kissing.

After a short make-out session that leaves me breathless, he hands me the flowers. “These are for you.”

It’s a beautiful bouquet of pink carnations, pink roses, and white daisies.

“They’re gorgeous. And they brighten up the room. And my mood. Or maybe that’s you. You’re sweet.”

He kisses my cheek and sets the bouquet, which is already in a vase, on my dresser.

“You deserve all the sweet things. I’ve got to help my little brother with some homework he’s struggling with after school, but I was thinking maybe I’d come over after dinner and bring a movie and dessert?”

I smile brightly and kiss him again. “Sounds perfect.”

“Good. Okay, I’ve gotta get to school, but I’ll see you tonight.” He stands up and slides his shoes back on. He points at me. “I expect lots of texts today.”

“Deal.”

“Bye, babe.”

“Bye.”

I wave, then sink back into my covers and fall back asleep, staring at my bouquet.

I managed to become a somewhat functional human today. I even ventured downstairs for a bit. Of course, I also took a three-hour nap this afternoon. Now I’m awake and trying to get some chapters read for English, because school is kinda like the post office in that nothing stops them.

Not rain or snow or sleet.

Heartbroken? Sick? Just had surgery? Sorry, still gotta do your homework.

My window slides up and Aaron glides in. He smiles wide when he sees I’m awake. “Hey, Beautiful. You look a lot better today.”

“I feel better. Naps and not being in horrible pain will do that.” As he slides off his shoes, I notice the bag in his hand. “Whatcha got there?”

He smirks as he sits down next to me. “Tacos.”

I stick my lip out in a pout. “Aw, Ace. But I don’t even—”

“I figured it’s close enough,” he laughs, tapping my lip.

Back in seventh grade, when I first got my period, I was angry and cranky and didn’t know how to explain it to the boys. I didn’twantto. But, of course, Aaron wouldn’t leave me alone, so I finally exploded at him and told him why I was upset. He mostly looked horrified. But later that afternoon, he slid through my window, bag of tacos in hand. So, now, whenever I have a cranky, bloated, I-want-to-kill-everyone-because-I-have-my-period day, he brings me tacos.

He’s pretty much the most amazing best friend in the universe.

I’m about to bite into a taco, but I start laughing.

“What?”

“That nurse and doctor definitely thought I was pregnant with your child yesterday.”

Aaron chokes down his bite and starts laughing. “You were so angry.”

“And you kept glancing at me like we were in trouble. You weren’t helping,” I tease, elbowing him in the side.

“It was funny. Or would’ve been if you hadn’t been in so much pain.”

I nod as I take a big bite. My eyes roll back, and I let out a little moan.
