happy. She’d been married to a man she didn’t and couldn’t
love. She’d been hiding who she was from her family. The one
joy in her life had been cooking, and that was heading for a
big, messy collision.
Now, she had the world. She had Haley, Jean, Jenny and her
family, Snake and Amy, their beautiful girls, Robert as a friend
again, and a brand-new business venture they were all
embarking on together, in a round about way, just like they’d
done most of life together, attached to each other by strings
that would never snap or sever again.
“I love you,” Haley said again as Claire started the SUV and
put it in drive. Her fingers threaded through Claire’s, and she
hung on tight.
“I love you.” Claire paused, pressing the brakes and shifting
back into park, then she turned around and looked into the
backseat at the children who made them a family. “I love all of
you so very much.”
