“God…” Kiera sighed. “You heard everything?”
“Everything.” Romi bit into the toast and chewed slowly. “You said some
really nice things about me. I have to say, it made me blush. And I feel
guilty for listening in. I didn’t mean to. I just heard the doorbell go off and
scrambled to get dressed because I thought I might have to hide. When I
heard a guy’s voice, I put two and two together.”
Kiera swallowed thickly. “I meant what I said. Everything.”
Romi popped the last bit of toast into her mouth. She rose slowly, walked
over, and set her hands at Kiera’s waist. “I know,” she said on an exhale. “I
think that was the nicest thing anyone ever said about me. Or things.” She
leaned in and gave Kiera a long, lingering kiss.
It made Kiera’s head spin. That kiss might have been the nicest thing
anyone said about her, because it spoke volumes.
“I promised you dinner last night,” Kiera rasped. She tried to compose
herself and get her hormones back under control. What she really wanted to
do was to take Romi back upstairs, peel off her clothes, and spend the
morning in bed. “I intend to make good on it. That is, if breakfast counts.”
“Breakfast sounds great.” Romi’s smile was instantaneous and spoke
volumes. Her face had this look of rapturous admiration that made Kiera
feel slightly guilty. She wasn’t half as brave or half as amazing as Romi
was. Even still, it made her stomach flutter, because she saw something else
there too.
A look that said that breakfast and a morning in bed didn’t have to be
mutually exclusive.
