an exit. “Uh, that’s very…forward.”

“It might be, but it’s what I think. He’s not right for you. Never was. I

think you’re wasting your time. Life really is too short to purposefully make

yourself unhappy. For any reason. You have this place. You throw yourself

into it. I see how hard you’ve worked and that’s what it takes for most

people to run a business. I see the passion you have for it. You don’t have

that same passion for Shane.”

“But my parents like Shane.”

Wynn crossed his arms. “Trust me. They’ll get over it.”

Kiera bit the inside of her cheek. She couldn’t even say that Wynn didn’t

know her parents or that he didn’t know what they were like. He did know

them. They’d been friends for nearly four decades. She searched for some

kind of comeback, but she had nothing. Zero.

“Okay, well, I don’t really want to discuss Shane right now when I have a

full week to plan, phone calls and emails piled up, picks to do, scheduling

to discuss, payroll to work on, accounting to take a look at, and a full trailer

to unload.”

“You know that it’s my job to help you with most of that, if not do it

for

you.”

“I know, but I still want to make sure I’m on top of everything. I don’t

have time to think about how Shane may or may not be the love of my life.”

Wynn sighed. “And Romi?”

“You win. She can stay.”

“It’s not a matter of what I think or whether I win or lose. It wasn’t a bet.

It’s what you think.”

Kiera forced herself to shrug casually. “Fine. She’s good. I’ll admit it.

She stays.” At least she could do that for herself. Show her feelings and

hormones who was really in charge. Her brain. Her common sense. Her

good judgement. “Oh, and, Wynn?”
