“Yeah?” Wynn looked absurdly hopeful for a second, like she was about
to blurt out a confession as to how she was just dating Shane for show and
how she actually wanted to corner Romi somewhere private and ask her if it
was alright to taste her mouth. Touch her. Discover her. See where things
might go…
Fuck. This is not appropriate. Get a serious grip on reality here. She was
constantly telling herself that. To get a grip. Somehow, it was always just
beyond her grasp, weird pun totally intended.
“I have a new addition for my office. It’s in the trailer. I think you’re
really going to like it.” She turned and walked down the hallway, smiling to
herself as she thought about how great the carousel horse was going to look
in her office after she did a massive declutter and moved a whole bunch of
the other things already in there onto the floor.
Chapter 11
Romi
Romi wasn’t sure what was happening when she got called into the office
on Tuesday morning. The day before she’d been informed by a grinning
Wynn that she was officially done with her probation and she was an
employee for good. She really hadn’t doubted that she would get through it.
Her previous employers hadn’t had any complaints about her work ethic.
There had been issues with other things, which she’d alluded to in the
truck with Kiera after the pick. She didn’t like to talk about it for a host of
reasons. She didn’t want to sound whiny. Some people could be really
insensitive. She didn’t want to make it seem like she was making excuses or
putting blame on other people. Most of all, she just didn’t want to talk about
it because the fact that she didn’t date men wasn’t really relevant to her job.
Romi was a little afraid to come down from the fourth floor where she
was sorting out antique books. Afraid it had something to do with what
she’d told Kiera in the truck. She was slightly confused, because if they
wanted to fire her, would Wynn have told her that her probation was done
