“I don’t even know what you mean, Drake. What in your twisted mind do I owe you?” I ask, chugging the water I brought with me.

“Well, for starters, you could join me for dinner?” he suggests as I turn to circle around him.

“Why would I do that after the way you pushed me up against the hauler in Detroit?” I question, hoping he’ll take the bait.

“I lost my temper. It won’t happen again, but you still owe me,” he says again.

“Oh, please. You keep telling me I owe you for something, what is it?”

“I want you to come back to me. I want us to be together again.”

I chuckle. “You cheated on me. Why would I want to take you back?”

“Because I’ve changed. I promise you I did. We were good together, and now we’re here together, working for the same race team. We can take over this series...” he trails off sounding more delusional by the minute.

“What is it that you want exactly?”

“Let me take you to dinner,” he says taking a step towards me.

“I’m not so keen on that. I really don’t want to be alone with you, not yet. If you’ve seriously changed, prove it first, then I’ll decide if I trust you enough to have dinner with you,” I remark, setting the trap.

I can see his patience waning; he’s trying to keep calm, but is failing at it. “Just having fucking dinner with me,” he growls out.

“And that would be a no,” I tell him. “You need to try harder than that, Drake.” I leave the workout room quickly before he snaps and loses his demeanor. I’m wondering if this plan is still a good idea.
